I'm re-using parts from my old 2x4 Cheater kit that I ran on a tunnel ram, and purchased a plate for a single dominator. I downloaded the instructions from the NOS website to get a baseline for tuning, but noticed that they list square jetting (my previous experience I had always run larger fuel jets). My combo info is below. I recently put the car back together and have been troubleshooting miscellaneous leaks and squeaks. The car pulls solidly to the 6200 limiter, and I'm getting anxious to get it to the track and punch the button!

  • Timing, where should I start?
  • Does this square jetting sound correct or should I fatten up the fuel side?
  • What should I expect from this combo?

Nitrous: Cheater solenoids, dedicated fuel system, jetted at 68/68 (smallest jets I have)

Engine:

446, TRW 2295, OOTB EB Performers, 590 Purple Shaft, 3-circuit 1150 Dominator, M1 Single Plane, TTi 2in primaries, timing set at 34 degrees.

Car:

69 Charger, Tubbed, ladder bars, 4.30 dana, TF with a 10in converter, stalls about 4k.

as always, thanks for the help! Greg

Monte Smith has been working for/with NOS for some time, and has been instrumental in revising the jetting charts for NOS. I think you'll find the square jetting to still be a little rich, but a much closer start then before. I think there is also timing chart. Remember, rich is NOT safe.
Have fun!

The square jetting is the new guide line to use.

Timing is always a guess, each engine will like something different, do what nos says too then check plugs after each run.

.068 jets is around 200hp

As mentioned above, the square jets will still be a little fat. Contacting Monte will be your best bet! I use his tune-ups, and am currently running a 71 N / 55 F with 6.5psi for right around 12:1 A/F ratio on my Big Block Stroker.

I am not saying this is the tune-up you should run, but it is just a reference to show you how FAT your tune will be square jetted. I am in Colorado, so have to deal with thin air.

Yes, please call or email Monte Smith (gtxmonte@msn.com).......I'm by no means an expert, but I'd guess he's going to ask what ET you're shooting for and what the car runs now.......A clean, Monte Smith 200 shot is ONE BAD MO FO............so I'd guess (by the TRW pistons) he's going to say to buy some smaller jets to begin with.....

On a Monte Smith 200 shot tune up, he's going to recommend a -9 NGK plus, at least 110 octane, a fuel jet that's at least 8 to 10 numbers smaller than the nitrous jet (and go leaner from there), and timing in the 20* to 24* range, depending on quench.......

BTW........A local guy came to one of Monte's classes.......His Mustang runs 11.30's on nuts......on a Monte Smith 190 shot, it went 9.70's on it's first pass...... so, like I'd mentioned, a Monte Smith 200 is a REAL 200.......

As some of these guys have said, I have rewritten all the NOS tuning charts and they are now being sent out with new kits and should be on the new website. The new tune ups are NOT SQUARE, but are larger on the nitrous side and perform quite well and are extremely safe. Contact me directly for specific help with your combo.

Thanks
Monte
