I know this may be a touchy subject but would andbody like to show pics of the pluenum area
mods for a FAST 340 intake. I'm trying to base
my car on your rules even though I live too far
away to compete in your series. I have read the buildup on Dudeck's 340 but pictures don't show much. THANKS in advance!

I thought the pics were good, i think most who do this modification mill the divider about 3/4's of the way down and smooth the edges.

I guess I'm looking for more detail at the front and back of pluenum area where they meet the runners. Thanks

You may get some further detail help from other FAST guys, Dudek has been very generous with his hard earned tech tips to building power in his builds. HOWEVER, if you really want the "Edge" I'd suggest doing some R&D of your own on a flow bench or a dyno because that's probably the best way to maximize your combo. I'll tell you this much, if you want the maximum from a TQ cast iron intake you'll need a band saw and some good cast iron welding skills to go along with your porting tools.

If you just gasket match, their is a ton of metal that you will remove from the port walls and top, do one side then compare to the other and it is an eye opener. Thanks for the link Dave, that was the same motor build that was in Muscle Car Reveiw correct?

Our intake for the 71 duster is at/will be at Greg Gessler's shop. He is not afraid of cutting and welding intakes or exhaust manifolds....

I would guess since the exh manifolds are the most restrictive part of these 340's, cutting and welding those first would show more HP gain than going all out on a 340 intake firs correct?

ademon, in my experience the intake is a bigger limiter than the exahaust, but it's not by a large margin, they both need to be opened up for big power.

Extrude honing the ex manifolds only provides minor gains so I don't think you could gain much cutting and welding them either.

I still think the early valiant with a 274 4bbl has some good potential as a package. Short wheel base, very light, the intake could be completly reworked easily from underneath being a single plane, the ex manifolds suck but I have never seen a dyno test that showed much real world differance. The 315 heads could be made to flow pretty decent. The cars have relatively small frontal area so they could make up a little on the top end of the track too. I don't think it would be a record smasher but it could be fun.
