Just bought a 440 and transmission and was told it came out of a 76 Imperial But don't know if it was the original motor and trans for the car. I plan on stroking it and putting it in my 68 Charger. I was wondering if there was anything special about the motor and tranny. Here are the numbers on the motor if you are looking at the front of the motor.
On the engine block behind the AC compressor in front of the intake, stamped on a pad is 8T440TE and below that is 7 25
On the right side of the block is 4006630-440-4
On the left side of the block is 4006630-440-4 and above the is 7 5 77

On the transmission on theleft side is on the tail shaft is 4022191
05305 1

on the right side right above where the pan bolts on is stamped PK4028826 5842 3075
And 555-8 are stamped on both sides of the bellhouse. Thanks for any info you may have.

Engine:
8T = 1978
440= CID

I think T = Trenton assembly plant and E = cast crank..

7 5 77 = casting date
4006630 = casting # for 1978-only 440s

Transmission:
4028826 came from a 1978 Chrysler 440

5842 is the 10,000 day calendar date code for 07/26/77

Looks like the engine and transmission were probably transplanted together from a 1978 Chrysler. There were no 1976 Imperials AFAIK.
