I am looking for some information, if you can help.

I have found a Detroit Locker, supposedly for a Dana 60. There is a spur gear machined on the OD of the flange next to where the ring gear mounts.

What is this gear for? None of the information I have found (Summit or Jegs catalogs, National Differential, etc) shows any variation like this. Also, how can I tell if this Detroit Locker is really for a Dana 60?

Thanks,

John

I think that's for a sensor (ABS/wheel speed??)

That is what the guy trying to sell this to me thought also. I am not sure, because what is happening at the wheel is what ABS is going to want to sense. Because of the differential, one of the wheels may not be connected to the diferntial carier. He also speculated traction control, but i think the same problem exists.

What about my question on how to determine if the unit actually fits a Dana 60. He bought it with some other parts. I am not sure he really knows what it caame out of.

I did some digging and found some information in a Dana-Spicer Information Document

"Do not change axle gear ratios on vehicles with anti-lock braking systems except in accordance
with the vehicle manufacturer's instructions.
Vehicles with anti-lock braking systems may utilize sensors and tone rings within the axle
housings to ensure the functioning of the anti-lock brakes. Improperly changing the axle
ratios may defeat the anti-lock braking system. If changing axle ratios will require changing
the location of the tone ring on the ring gear flange relative to the location of the sensor in
the axle housing, contact the OEM manufacturer for specific directions and guidelines."

So the teeth are for ABS.

Anyone have any information on how or what to measure to verify this locker fits a Dana 60?

Thanks again. John
