We finally got my 1974 RR finished just a day before it was to be at Mopars at the Mansion. There was a lot of education from this project and I would like to help anybody out there doing one with what was learned.

I have not spent a lot of time on this web board and I am not sure how to post a photo of the project.

The car was found near Kingman AZ out in the middle of nowhere. Fortunately it was a an almost rust free car. There was some rust in a couple spots around the rear window and on the dutchman. The car had an aftermarket vinyl top added and water got in around the edges. The bad part was the factory sunroof panel. It was just a rusty frame. The previous owners repair was to screw a piece of Plexiglas on the roof. Yuck.

The car was done at Restorations By Rob in Buckeye, AZ www.restorationsbyrob.com

His work is just awesome and his attention to detail is amazing. The 74 RR as it was delivered to Rob

As you can see, there is not much sunroof insert left to work with.

This is what we started with for the interior. Legendary supplied the goods, but we had to use a regular headliner and get extra material to make the sunroof headliner. The problem was the bows did not line up.

The metal work that needed to be done was minor from the rust stand point, but there were a lot of holes to fill in from the aftermarket sunroof trim.

This was the worst rust damage. We found a guy that had cut out parts of the back window of a 73 Satellite and was selling the pieces on Craig's List. $40 for the right shape metal was a bargain. From there it was standard replacement procedure.

There were plenty of screw holes to weld when the Plexiglas went to the trash too. These sunroofs are hard to find. But let me clue you in on a secret. American Sunroof Company was the contractor for these B-Body sunroofs and they can be found in junkyards in C-Bodies and in Cadillacs. Yep, many big GM cars used this very same complete sunroof. I was lucky when a good friend found a near new condition complete sunroof assembly at the Spring Fling for $150.

Under the hood is an interesting detail, and maybe somebody out there can help me. As you can see, the air cleaner snorkel is oval. That is correct for a 1974. But it is a short snout, which is an A-Body 360 air cleaner. I would like to find a correct long snout B-Body 1974 360 4V air cleaner. I have a VERY nice A-Body air cleaner to sell or trade when I find the right one.

Caddy's and C-bodies share the sunroof peices? Any specific years and/or models?

We needed the "Buttons" that raised up the sunroof into closed position. Tried to fab some up, but that did not work well. Then stumbled upon a mid 70s New Yorker. It was the same sunroof and had the buttons and a couple other seals that worked perfect. It looks like 76 -78 Caddies have the very same sunroof. That is not a 100% confirmation but the inserts appear to be correct for a Mopar. One of these days I will take my leftover frame assembly and accuaratly measure it. My information originally came from a retired American Sunroof person.

Does that air cleaner have the flap in the bottom? I have pictures of a '74 360 long snorkel flapper on my air cleaner page but don't have any pictures of a '74 a-body one or confirmation of the flap status.

That color combo with 4 spd and sun roof is really something. That is a really nice car and very unique too.

Email me a reminder and I will try to remember to get some air cleaner photos this Christmas when I get to where the car is stored.

That is the air cleaner I need. Thanks for the detailed photos. I have another air cleaner that I will post photos of. Not sure of its application. It was in the trunk of a 73 Charger 400.

The 73 and 74 RRs are due for some respect. Not much was made in 73 and 74 to feed the needs of muscle and most of them have gone away. Not many are willing to spend the money and time to bring them back to life. Nice ride you have there as well.
