This is the upper control arm mounting point. The stock tabs are weak so a tube was made with threaded inserts for the bolts to thread into. A 1 5/8 hole was drilled through the front frame rail to allow a support tube to go from the roll cage strut brace through the frame and attach to part of the K-member. The rod ends are 1/2" Aurora crome moly.

This is a view from above of the K-member. It shows the Wildwood rack. Nothing really speacial about that a mounting fixture trimed down and a tab made out of .125" plate welded to the K-member and another welded to the rack to support the PS end of the rack. Notice up and right of center of pic tabs welded to the K-member to support the strut rods.

This is a view from behind the PS wheel. Nothing but a lot of dirt from racing LOL. Santhuff double adjustable coilover shock. We decided to not mount the shock to the lower control arm. Instead we made the mount in the lower ball joint bracket. The bracket is really simple and has been so trouble free that I have not had time to remove it and grind the corners off. It is simply a few peices of 1/4" plate welded to form a 2.5" angle with a couple webs welded in to make the shock mount and a tube welded in to make a steering arm.

This is a pic from the front of the PS wheel. This shows the plates used to make the mount and the steering arm. Again Aurora rod ends. I don't know if you can notice put the steering arm and lower control arm are parallel. If you remember from the first pic there is no engine in the car.

If doing this again I would make the horizontal plate longer and include the steering arm in the plate the way strut packages are done.

Never mind the jack that really confuses the picture. This picture is a side view of the PS of the car. It shows the tie rod crossing over the strut rod. It also shows how beefy the strut rod mount is. Again Aurora rod end. Cars that have high speed quivers are usually caused by insufficiant support of the lower ball joint. A lot of attention was put into how well the lower control arm was supported. This is done much the same way on strut suspension tube cars but they use smaller tubing and brackets. My builder was scared of what I might do on the street I guess.

This is a picture of the upper shock mount and the upper control arm.

Afco has shocks that will fit in without all this work. Remember this was done 10 years ago. You would not want to use the Mopar application shock as the adjuster is on the bottom to clear a stock lower control arm. Instead kill two birds and buy the shorter travel chevy application shock that will have the adjuster off to the side. You can also use the stock control arm mount without any added support. Frankly I was scared to death of how this was going to work and the Chassis guy was scared of what I might do on the street. A lot of overkill was put into this front-end. This frontend has landed a 330ft wheelstand with not the first tingle of the steering wheel. The car has been 173 MPH with this front end with no trouble.

An interesting story. I had been in the 142 MPH range with a stock K-member and torsion bars. This front suspension was done and aligned with an 4 ft level mounted to an 8 ft angle iron and a string at 5:00AM Sat. Morning in Rustburg, VA. I loaded the car and drove to Commerce GA. Made the first pass a little after noon, 2nd round NMCA SS qualifying. I was very dissapointed the car fealt incredibly slow. Got the time slip and had just ran 148 MPH. Later that weekend the car went 150 MPH. It is amazing what a good working suspension feels like. I can't take credit for what was done back in 1998 when this front end was built. There are a few changes I would make as far as how the K-member attaches just to make it easier to remove. I have watched many struggle with other front K-members. This one has never had any kind of issue. Unfortunately Gary Wisecarver is a very busy man building record setting Comp and Super Stock cars. He does not have time to do these jobs. I have the equipment to do these myself and look forward to doing one probably on my dad Duster some day.
