The Ocala street racer's first name is Joe, the last name sounds Italian, may be Lumbardo or Lumbardi. He's not Italian, he's black, and he worked for Les Terrel before he sold his shop to Dan Dvorak.
I understand Joe crashed the car at Candler, didn't see what was left but I heard there was nothing salvagable.
I always liked that car, I recall when S&M had it at the Gators and was suprised to find it was the same car Les had. I always wondered how he drove it with 1 arm, I recall it went 8.80s with a Hemi/727 back around '83. It seems Buddy only ran it a short while, then went to the T-Bird. It must have sat 10 years or longer before Joe bought it off Buddy.
That's not the only S&M car that ran at the Candler, the Welsh Bros ran one of the '68 SS/A cars there (the Pomeroy/Snively car). It also was crashed real hard but not at Candler, it happened years later while being loaded up on a trailer! The crash also destroyed a '64 Max Wedge car. Lesson learned was, make sure the cross ram linkage is adjusted so it does't umbrella and hang wide open.
