I read through my new HOT ROD magazine and one thing was sadly apparent during drag week. Hardly any Mopars and the quickest Mopar was Mike's CUDA with a 10.51. That's flying for a full dressed Cuda with steel magnum 500's and a small block. Where were all the "FAST Street cars" from the Mopart's thread that argued about who has the fastest street car and what is a street car? Is it the economy, could it be that these cars can't drive 1,000 miles and make at least 1 pass a day for 5 days, owners can't take the time off? Or is drag week irrelevant to Mopars? Larson's chevy drove 1,000 miles, ran a 7.25 and a 204 mph on 2 different runs, all on the same tires! Where were all the 7,8,and 9 second Mopar "Street Cars"?

I heard the Hot Rod staff talking at the event in Cedar Falls Iowa a couple years ago. Someone asked why they don't have it on the west coast.

THey said if they had it over there...they wouldn't have very many cars entered. THey said that no one over that way was interested in Drag Week.

My reason for not doing it is very simple...I have no desire to drive 1000+ miles in one week in my car. CHIP

Thats incorrect, in San Fran, there is a huge turn out for Drag Week.. But since we;re talking cars, there is a lot of tracks and fast cars in Cali, Oregon, Arizona and the other surrounding areas.. You might be surprised as to the turn out.. but I guess we'll never know..

Driving it to work a couple of times a week, around town on the weekends, and the occasional trip to the beach is enough for me.
Interstate driving would not be a very pleasant experience for more than 30 or 45 minutes w/ 4.10 gears and 4" exhaust. CHIP

NOT pleasant ? .. then that is not much of a street-car IMO.

I have ridden in some of the fastest, most famous "streeters" on the planet ..... the Silver Bullet, Steve Lisk's Chally and the Jaws-Mustang ... and had ANY of those guy's wanted to have taken-a-trip-to-FL ...I would have gladly gone.

im currently building a 70 duster. w2 small block....hoping to eventually run street assassin at norwalk. getting 7.50 cert'd this winter...keeping the back seat in it. 8.75 rear with caltracs....eventually a 9 inch with ladder bars will be under it. only fiberglass will be the 6 pak hood. should be a fun car. i'll be updating with some pics as the build goes...main goal will be 8.50s in street trim on a 10.5. im only 20 so it will take a cpl years to get there but im pretty excited

exactly. when i can take the time off, and afford to ship/drive my car a quarter of the way around the globe, i'll do it. can't say when that will be. kids and a mortgage, and the most expensive hobby of all- a woman!

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

Chip, the only way I would think about that with a car like yours would be with a gear vnedors overdrive and some really quiet mufflers..lol

Drag week does not prove anything. It shows that people will do anything to get in a Mag.Most of the Street car crowd could care less for it.
Why was your car not there?

Geez, now a hot rod has to be pleasant to be a street car.

I love driving my car locally, but drag week would be a 5 days of misery to me, I'll leave that to the diehards. I think my car would be fine but I couldn't do it. LOL!
