Is there an economical way to convert an LA 318 to a roller cam?
I would like to keep my numbers matching block. I have already decided on Magnum Iron Ram heads so I need lifters that pump oil through the push rods.
Reason for conversion is the lack of zinc in current oil for tappets, better technology, faster cam rise times.
Thanks for your input.

I take it its not a roller block,no cheap way for a retro fit to rollers

my 88 360 headed 318 was flat tap cam but roller block

I used all 1990 roller gear to swap in a lunati 60710 roller cam

the early stock roller lifters are not oil thru

the 90s are oil thru with hollow PR and oil both ways...thru lifter PR and the old LA style thru head and rocker shaftes

OU812 has a very good set of retro lifter with link bar and drop in IIRC..well worth the $ for a retro set up

has roller oiling and long skirts that dont uncover the oil gally oiling..

way ez and cheaper to start with a roller block if possiable

take your old motor and put it under your workbench, and pick up a roller shortblock from an '85-up M body or '88-up truck, or a magnum shortblock. should be able to find one for $100-200. if it's a 90ish or newer, (that has the PR oiling lifters) and they're in good shape, you can reuse them on a new or reground cam.
