I am tired of my blue smokin cummins motor
What are you replacing the pistons, the rings are the problem....Cummins Hemis had the barrel edge worn off the factory rings from too rough a cyl wall finish...It just needs rings. Unless you just want to increase the compression .25 pt.
Would you happen to have part numbers to help me find the correct rings? It would be nice to correct this problem..

Hemibeep, I am going through the exact thing you are. My Cummins 528 was purchased by me off another member here for a good price, but I knew from reading here, that tearing it down and redoing it was mandatory. The clearances on the valve guides were so loose that all the valves had horrible oil/carbon buidup on the backsides, I have never seen anything like it. Cummins also did not use a torque plate when honing, it was obvious. They also left out the windage tray and the engine build was somewhat less than sanitary. I had everything checked and my shop did a lite hone on the cylinders. I am using Speed Pro plasma-moly file fit rings, PN# R-10595. The engine is assembled and I am waiting on Smith Bros. for my pushrods, MP's were .075 avg. too short and had over 4 threads showing under the rocker. I hope to have her in the car and running in the next couple of weeks, I will let you know how it all works out, but I think what you have is salvageable by new rings and valve guides if yours is like mine. Lee.
