I am just curious, isnt an MSD distributor just an electronic pickup, simililar to a stock Mopar distributor? If thats the case, could you just wire it up to the stock Mopar electronic ECU setup in place of the stock distributor?

Should be fine.

I run the opposite setup with no problems--Mopar dist with MSD box. Just had to swap a different electrical connector.

I was using the MSD dist but it was too tall and I missed my vacuum advance.

yes just a different dist supposedly of better quality (I have never owned one) but I do know alot of MSD's stuff is now being made over there. I'd mainly want one that the springs/curve is easilly accessed

I agree. That vacuum advance was nice.

Try the GM HEI system. I use on my 4dr 323", the 4-pin HEI gm unit is cheap. A fellow mechanic replaced them falsely accusing the part. Got myself a handfull. I feed the pin + unit battery volatage, and the hook up the coil w/ballast via the 4-pin. With a MP hei vac adv, its self contained fully curvable unit.

A buddy gave me an aftermarket hei module & I mounted it UNDER my dist. Runs/starts awesome. Completely hidden/no ballast. I've even used the stock black ones from a '75 chebby (4 identical 1/4" male terminals) & ran great. The only reason I ran it was because it was a freebee

This is one of the reasons i was thinking this.

The other is parts replacement. The distribs themselves are pretty reliable, but when it comes to the boxes, i'd rather replace a $40 mopar box over a $160 MSD 6AL box. The stock box/ballast doesnt bother me personally in the least, i have ways of hiding those to clean up the looks. I just really like the design of the MSD distributors (albeit they are a bit chevyish under the cap).

The instructions say you can't.

That makes zero sense though......both the chrysler and MSD are magnetic pickup distributors. Unless i am really missing something here, i cant see why it wouldn't work. Both have 2 wires from the pick up coming out of them.

Well, i guess as usual, i will have to be the test mule.

Yes it will work - I have run this setup on my colt for about half the year. I built my own cable after buying the connector ends for a few dollars. Just be sure to keep the MSD happy w/12+V.
