other side:

C'mon, how hard is it to weld to bolts/studs to a piece of bar stock to make sure things like this don't happen?

look's to a 8.750, this a all new case and gut's? or a used one that they built up with new gut's if it's a used case then it might of been the one armed crack monkey that had it before they got it.

You know, I almost bought a 742 peg leg case the other day and went through it myself (hell, I did rebuilt everything else in the car..)

I was ordering up parts and decided to splurge and order one with new 3.55 gears and sure-grip the other night.

I'm sure it'll be OK, I was just a little ticked when I opened the bag...

If nothing else it makes me question the assembly methods on the rest of the unit.

I've rebuilt 3rd members that have adjusters that look as bad. I have a spanner wrench but that doesn't fix what has been done by the guy before me.

May be ugly but its just cosmetic if the gears are setup right.

Oh yes he will. EVERY time. The mental image is indelible.
I'd dissasemble and check everything. Looks like a dealership flat rate mechanic assembled it with loving care.

Yeah, unless the parts get scattered all over the track....

Can't really tell what the gear pattern looks like but here's a shot of that:

I would be more worried about blowing the main caps off.
