Ant tricks to removing late 90's Neon tail lights? (without prying and breaking them)

I just pulled a broken one - and yes i removed the 4 nuts.

This thing had to be pried out! Lots of sealer / glue seemed to be holding it in.

Are they all glued in like that ?

Neons have always been known for water leaks past the taillamp gaskets. 9 out of 10 probably have the lamps siliconed in. Try a heat gun before prying. Use a non hardening sealing when reinstalling or double gasket them like I do. The dealer will tell you the gaskets are not available but they are. The part number is listed in a T.S.B.

I just started remaking those gaskets for 95-99 and 2000-2005 after a bunch of requests. The original material was the cheapest neoprene foam Chrysler could purchase. When the taillight was installed the 1/2" thick gaskets would be compressed 1/4" BUT the cheap material takes a set and never recovers. After a couple years when it shrinks the back floor starts filling with water.

I make mine out of the most expensive EPDM/Neoprene blend. EPDM is the stuff used on rubber flat roofs. It's 1/2" thick but soft AND resilient.

well, i got one today. Loosened the 4 bolts and it slid right out.

I guess someone must have replaced the one on my car previously and glued the $@#$ out of it !
