Great pics, Myron, thanks! Love the chassis details. In the raceday pics of the car, it looks like the drip rails were shaved, but they're visible on the restoration. C-body gas pedal & A100 seat are interesting. Spatter-paint was used on several TransAm cars, wonder if that's original to this car? Bruce Canepa, for those who don't know, deals in exotics & racecars, and is a notable vintage racer, who from what I've seen can drive anything to the front. His shop is like a museum of priceless and extremely cool stuff. 1x4 carb was dictated by NASCAR in the '60s. In the '50s, multiple carbs & even superchargers were used by different manufacturers.

In the 60's Hemi's always had a single 4 by rule, ford & chevy? wedges were allowed 2x4 for short time to run with the hemi's I believe.

Reality check, that half the population is smarter then 50% of the people and it's a constantly contested fact.

I don't claim to be an expert, but I seem to recall that in 1968, after Richard Petty demolished all other competition in 1967, NASCAR allowed Ford to go to dual quads to keep up with the Hemi. Mopar screamed that for 1968, the factory 427 Fords were single four barrel, but the Hemi was still two four barrels. I believe after the first few races, NASCAR relented and let the Mopar boys use two four barrel carbs. Unfortunately, Ford had time to develop an effective dual four intake manifold for the 427 TunnelPort engine, Chrysler had nothing but the stock intake and the drag racers' cross-ram; they had no twin four top for the bathtub manifold run in NASCAR with any type of development. NASCAR had had enough, and said that for 1969, EVERYBODY would run a single four barrel, Ford immediately called Holley and they developed the Dominator.

There was a great article years ago written by Cotten Owens.According to him he tested a dual 4 bbl set ups back in the day.Car was so fast it simply would not turn with the tires and the set up of the day.Don't recall 2 fours every being run even on a max wedge. The pics were great and really show how stock the cars were back then. Thanks for sharing!
In '68 you could run a destroked Hemi or Ford with dual carbs. The limit was 405 ci with dual carbs.
As to the cars being stock, well they "appear" more stock than today, but the reality is almost everything on those '69 cars is purpose built. There is very little on that Daytona will interchange with a street Daytona, that's for sure.
This particular Daytona is the one that was in the Darlington Museum for almost 30 years. There is photo evidence that it spent 1970 on the auto show circuit for Chrysler and is most likely NOT the Southern 500 winner as has now being repeatedly claimed. My opinion is that it probably never raced in 1970. It is as close to an NOS race Daytona as you can get.

A buddy of mine has this NASCAR car in his barn. Car is complete with Hemi.
Your friend bought an old racer advertised as a kit car at a Spring Fling a few years ago. It sounds an interesting car.
I think there could be a good chance the Cotton Owens show Daytona was raced in the Cotton Owens team stable prior to it becoming a show car. Question is what prior car was it.
These race cars came be famous more than once. I know someone that had a good case that the Tim Werner 71 Petty Roadrunner might have been a 70 Petty Enterprises Superbird

That is possible.
There are a few things that do not make sense for the car in its current configuration...
Why does it have street wing braces which would be completely inadequate for track use?
Why does it have the metal reinforcement on the tail panel that the trunk latch would bolt up to? No need for that with pins?
Why is there no driveshaft loop as mandated by rule?
Where is the wing safety cable as mandated by rule?
