re-wired the car and this is the only item i'm still having a problem with. i have an "extra" terminal on the wiper switch i don't know what it goes to, but i also tried a 6 pin switch i had laying around, wired it how it should be, and got nothing. when the 7 pin switch is hooked up, you can hear a circuit breaker type click from inside the switch. the motor spins and will move the wiper arms while spinning it by hand, but i am not getting power to the switch for some reason...

car is early '71 (aug '70) plymouth satellite - standard dash, 2 speed wipers, electric washer pump if it matters

Not sure about your switch(I have a three speed) but mine wouldn't work until I grounded the guage cluster and then it worked perfectly.

could be my issue, as i built my own cluster of aluminum - may have to run a ground wire from switch to the dash frame...i'll look into it

is there a way to try and supply power to the motor to make sure there isn't a problem with it?

I have a 2 speed and when you look at the switch, there is one uncovered pin, but it works fine. Not sure if maybe the extra pin is for a 3 speed setup.

I just went through testing the wipers and replacing the motor. I used a test light to see where power was going during different wiper switch rotation settings. It was pretty simple and it changed each time I tried a new speed.
One thing was evident, I believe both low and high speed had two hot wires coming into the motor.

that's what i was noticing as well, but i wasn't getting power to the motor for some reason (possibly switch needing to be grounded)...i had the power wire connected and would go through the speeds and pushing it in for the washer, using the test light everything seemed fine, but i was getting the "click" coming from the switch like a breaker. the stock harness had a connector with gray wire coming off of the 7th pin, but it didn't go to anything - pretty hacked-up, hence the new harness

Landon,
Here’s some diagnostic info from the 72' FSM on the 2-speed concealed (were the wipers park below the hood line) wiper system. Note the switch needs to be grounded.

And from the 71'FSM

Match up the circuit numbers on these two diagrams for switch to motor circuits.

The wiring diagrams are slightly different from 71’ to 72’ in regards to the wiper motor/switch. Connector configurations appear to be laid out differently at both the motor and switch as well. Were the wipers working corectly before with the old harness? Post some shots of your components and connector lay-out.

yes, 72 and later switch carries diff wiper switch prongs disposition and in fact is one solid plug with all wires on it, diff than 71, with wider prongs disposition and using two diff plugs. HOWEVER wires and colors are the same. 72 and laters switch is smaller too.

extra prong is ground reinforcement, what REALLY is not needed once mounted. Cluster attachment provides enough ground

will get some pics - wipers worked fine before, but for some reason while i was building my motor, the entire electrical system took a dive...so i replaced the entire chassis harness with a universal unit. running wiper power to the B terminal (pink stock wire)...then running the other wires in stock colors out to motor. the extra terminal threw me off a bit - i will try grounding the switch when i make it back to my car. my stock 71 switch is a lot different from the 6 pin switch i have from a later b-body (73 charger i believe), which i tried using. hopefully the switch being grounded will solve this issue. i don't drive much and normally only in good weather, but don't really want to get stuck and not have them.

thanks for the diagrams and instructions on testing the motor doug. i really should invest in a FSM...maybe a birthday present to myself next month
