I'd prefer to keep the stat out for the breakin. Your timing is in the ballpark? A shop fan in front of the rad?

Timing is close but not yet checked with a time light. I have the stock fan and shroud on
He meant an additional fan, like a shop fan or even one from your house to blow through the radiator or even just to keep air moving through the engine bay Jim

I would highly suggest checking it as too slow of timing will overheat it.
Don't forget the water is not flowing through the radiator so would timing do any good?

I'd pull the stat, set a big powerful fan in front of the rad, hookup your timing light & here is some excellent info on ring breakin. "break in secrets" at www.mototuneusa.com. I'd grab a helper (or 2) & have him man the light & twist the dist to get 36 at 2500 rpm. If you have not shortened your slots this will make your initial way off but for breakin you will NOT be below 2500 & I would goose the throttle many times during the 30 min breakin. (read "breakin secrets" & see what you think).
