Anyone looked into this AHRA thing ??? Looks like they have a ton of classes ( including the muched disscussed, never run Nostalgia Pro Stock class) looks like a decent alternative to NHRA\IHRA if they can get up enough steam to move forward from a 5 race schedule

I hope the can make it work as well. I run their race at KC and Tulsa back in the early 80's. Looking forward to Tulsa next Sept.

I see NHRA has already issued an "edict" forbidding any NHRA track from hosting an AHRA event.

Who here is surprised at that?

NHRA is scared on more than one level. Bruton Smith looks to be builing 2 more drag strips at his oval tracks. If he ties in with the AHRA, and that could happen, don't you think he will plan on going head to head with the NHRA, especially since he has made overtures to buying the NHRA and being rebuffed?

Not surprised since the NHRA see's the AHRA as a competing sanctioning body. I wouldn't be surprised if the IHRA does the same.

I think IHRA will let them, but ask for a cut. IHRA needs some help too.

I personally view the AHRA like the UDRA. I cannot see any tracks switching to the AHRA unless they can prove they are a viable sanctioning body by hosting some successful events. If their events tank, nobody will want them next year.

I don't even think there is a AHRA track within 200 of NYC.

Or 3000 miles.
Currently there aren't any AHRA sanctioned tracks.

The Lakeland FL track was AHRA back when it was a 1/4 mile facility in the '70s. They had the Winternationals there. I recall seeing Galits black streamliner making a pass, Billy Meyers going off the end into a lake almost drowning and it's where I saw my first PS car with a Lenco trans.

I think with all the mess going on with the NHRA and the new "format" that the IHRA will be using next year I think you're going to see the small grassroots sactioning bodies really takeoff.Look at the success that the ADRL has enjoyed by just putting on a simple show that people can afford to go see and enjoy. And I think everyone here has had somesort of dealing with the Pinks AllOut events and you see how many cars those guys pack in using a simple philosphy of not over complcating everything..

Everything goes through cycles, and based on the direction NHRA has chosen, I fulley expect them to implode within the next several years. I think AHRA see's this too and they are just positioning them selves to jump in - although a little premature at this time.

With our current economy and political climate I think all racing sports are going to be in jepordy along with other sports(hunting).Who can foot the bill for the carbon footprint that racing leaves?

Not to mention if the Government takes over health care.... Don't laugh I can see them saying that racing and other recreational sports are too dangerous and they will either out law it or tax you if you do it. All in the name to keep health cost down.

That's how they'll outlaw it....like they are trying with ammunition. Just tax and fee it so that doing would be so expensive that no one could afford it.

These guys in power now are smart....that is why they are so scary.

Not to get off the original post but speaking of ammunition...has anyone noticed the shortage of shells (all types) the last 6 months??

John, John, John. I've had people telling me the NHRA will implode for at least 20 years already.

IHRA is in imminent danger thanks to their new owners.

So far all I'm seeing from the AHRA is a slick website and lots of promises.

Not too many IHRA tracks in Arizona either.

I don't think IHRA has ever had a track in Arizona. But, they have a lot in the northeast and southeast.

I think that IHRA really helped themselves with this move. It will give a "show" for the nitro junkies, but retains their first class sportsman program....which is the foundation. Drag racing never has been, nor never will be, specator driven. It doesn't have the draw of a NASCAR, which means the numbers of spectators required to support a Pro only show simply aren't there.

They never could compete head to head with NHRA for the Pro show....if, for no other reason the sheer number of fuel cars in the country simply do not exist. Heck, two or three guys own most all of the fuel cars that run NHRA's dog and pony show.

I think IHRA may have a good idea here.

20 years ago drag racing wasn't quite like it is today big D. When the hole show is all about the personalities of just a few people, that aint a good sign to me. What really jerks my chain is when they gouge the grass roots racers to pay for that crap - and it is crap! Yep, the 3 closest tracks to where we are going are all NHRA tracks - bummer! Maybe I'll just stick my 408 in a quad and do some off roading.
