NHRA is scared on more than one level. Bruton Smith looks to be builing 2 more drag strips at his oval tracks. If he ties in with the AHRA, and that could happen, don't you think he will plan on going head to head with the NHRA, especially since he has made overtures to buying the NHRA and being rebuffed?

I don't even think there is a AHRA track within 200 of NYC.
Or 3000 miles. Currently there aren't any AHRA sanctioned tracks.
The Lakeland FL track was AHRA back when it was a 1/4 mile facility in the '70s. They had the Winternationals there. I recall seeing Galits black streamliner making a pass, Billy Meyers going off the end into a lake almost drowning and it's where I saw my first PS car with a Lenco trans.

Everything goes through cycles, and based on the direction NHRA has chosen, I fulley expect them to implode within the next several years. I think AHRA see's this too and they are just positioning them selves to jump in - although a little premature at this time.

With our current economy and political climate I think all racing sports are going to be in jepordy along with other sports(hunting).Who can foot the bill for the carbon footprint that racing leaves?
Not to mention if the Government takes over health care.... Don't laugh I can see them saying that racing and other recreational sports are too dangerous and they will either out law it or tax you if you do it. All in the name to keep health cost down.

That's how they'll outlaw it....like they are trying with ammunition. Just tax and fee it so that doing would be so expensive that no one could afford it.
These guys in power now are smart....that is why they are so scary.

Not to get off the original post but speaking of ammunition...has anyone noticed the shortage of shells (all types) the last 6 months??

I don't think IHRA has ever had a track in Arizona. But, they have a lot in the northeast and southeast.
I think that IHRA really helped themselves with this move. It will give a "show" for the nitro junkies, but retains their first class sportsman program....which is the foundation. Drag racing never has been, nor never will be, specator driven. It doesn't have the draw of a NASCAR, which means the numbers of spectators required to support a Pro only show simply aren't there.
They never could compete head to head with NHRA for the Pro show....if, for no other reason the sheer number of fuel cars in the country simply do not exist. Heck, two or three guys own most all of the fuel cars that run NHRA's dog and pony show.
I think IHRA may have a good idea here.
