Well, I find it hard to believe that no one has replaced/recovered their Cuda dash pad, and doesn't have an opinion on their pad?

From what I've seen, you basically pick your poison. I bought an ultimate rides pad for my car and it looks very nice. But the grain isn't right. I've seen several Just Dashes re-skins and they look a ton better than a cracked dash, but they looked bloated and the details looked ill-defined to me. Other guys love them. My cars don't warrant an NOS dashpad, assuming I could find one..
The way I see it, unless your heart is set on entering OE judging, it isn't that important.

A buddy had a '70 Cuda pad redone by JD. The end result is pretty good. Fits good, and a regular Mopar guy like me would have a hard time noticing any flaw at all.

The bad part was that they quoted like $700 and a 5 week turnaround time, but after 12 weeks still no dash. They finally said that they were "backed up", but told him they would, "rush it for you for another $200."

He gave them and earful and mentioned his lawyer and the dash showed up after week 13.

My goodness, horror stories! Again, the vendors supply inferior parts and we have to buy them because NOS is too expensive or hard to find, and something is better than nothing, so we have to settle for it. We need Mike Ross @ BE/A to make these pads. He does it right! Who makes Lengendary dash pads, as I heard they were the best, though I haven't seen one?

The UR pads are nice as long as you purchase one that uses a metal core (which are the only ones I will sell) ,most vendors only offer the plastic core. They do not fit as nicely as one with a metal core.
It requires a core in return

Interesting topic, and I appreciate the feedback, as I have the same questions for 1970 Challenger dashpads.

Last year at the Mopar Nationals, a guy from Legendary told me that they re-sell dashpads from another manufacturer (sorry, I don't remember which), but that they were developing their own. Surprisingly, I have not heard anything since. Anyone know if Legendary has something in the works?

And yes, I think this would be a great opportunity for BE&A/PG. Although the investment is very high for these 'one year only' products, there is certainly already a high demand.

Please keep the feedback coming on the current products!

-Tom

I bought a `71-4 Barracuda dash pad from Ultimate Rides and it looks fine for my driver although not correct grain. My only complaint was they quote 2-3 weeks delivery but take over three months and then only after calling and complaining a number of times! Their recent ad in MCG has the the gall to claim fast production time-ya right!

I've used a Just Dashes pad in my car. As stated, they are 'puffy' looking, compared to the crispness of the originals.
It fit fine, because of the metal inner structure, which they cannibalize from an old OE pad. This would be a must for me.
I work for a company that molds vinyl, for similar products. The 70 Challenger pad would be a B&^*^h to make as the OEM was made. The tightness of the corners, the inset logo and the sewing (which meant they molded the vinyl, sewed it, attached the nameplate with a backing plate and then placed it back in a mold) make it a very hard part to get right. I'm sure the original suppliers had a lot of scrap parts. No doubt that is why they changed it in 71. It is also, probably why, the current reproductions have 'softened some parts' to get it to manufacture.
I depends on how easily irritated you get. After all, the dash pad is staring you in the face as you sit in the car...mile after mile.

Just Dashes-more like Just Don't.I hate how their pads are puffy and lose all definition, and their colors are off too. There has to be a better way

Anyone know about the Year One dashes, as I heard they were very close to OEM?

OLD (like from the early 1990's) Year One dash pads were very accurate, supposedly they purchased yardage of the original vynal covering from the original pad manufacturer but have long since run out of it. I had one a couple years ago new in the box, it looked like an NOS pad with the exception of the Year One logo embossed into the depression the VIN tag covers. I don't know who makes thier latest ones but they are not the same as the old ones.

With the UR dashpad, what is the procedure? Can you order one, when received, remove the old dashpad, install the new dashpad and send in the old, or do you have to send your old dashpad in and they redo it?

That's exactly how I did it. I send them a clean (rustfree) core back to them in their box after recieving the new one.

Beware:
1)They will charge you a full $195 core charge UP FRONT
2)If you core is no good ie: dash corners are rusted or rotted you will not get your $195 back.
3)They may not have your pad in stock and may need your core up front, it's never happened to me.

I've used about 6 so far, and they have continously been getting better in quality.

Thank you Alan. I believe my pad was replaced already at some point, but I'm not happy with it.

Now, who do you send your new pad to to replace the VIN tag?

You had better not send out your VIN tag to anyone as they would by law have to destroy it.
keep your tag in a safe place and reinstall it on your new pad when you get it with new rivets, which various individuals sell.
