I dropped a tenth by getting rid of the clutch fan, but still using the belt driven water pump. This was when I was running high 11s. Dropped another tenth w/ an electric water pump when I was running mid 10s. I've always run w/ an alternator. CHIP

That's pretty impressive, actually.

I ditched a clutch fan for an electric with shroud. I saw no firm gains, maybe a couple hundredths at most. Still running the stock water pump though, I'd switch over if i knew the car was gonna pick up, but I'm not so certain.

How much improvement are you guys seeing with a electric water pump and electric fans ? HP or ET's ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/1343795-scratchchin.gif) Thanks inadvance !!
I have tested removing the water pump belt(no alternator, tight water pump belt only) on two different 440 motors on two different engine dynos, 8 HP gain on both
That's more like what I expected.

The 2 tenths I shaved off was also while using an alt. ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbs.gif)

Years ago with my ld car I dialed in at 10.49, water pump belt blew off at the launch and I went 10.29! I was exstatic driving back to my pit til I saw steam under the hood, now I'm in a habit of watching all my gauges. Even with an alternator I was running 2 tenths quicker after the changeover, and easier to cool between rounds.

A little over 2 tenths on my SB Dart.
Same results here on 3 of my cars.... Along with 2 mph gain.

Yes, it is .10 improvement on my car if I turn the alternator off. I have a switch to open the field circuit.
Yeah, it's got a smallblock.
