Sadly it sounds like they are cheapening their version of "pro drag racing" down to the level of monster truck "races".
NHRA is probably jumping for joy.

I don't know...to my mind Pro racing has become nothing more than a dog and pony show anyway....especially fuel.
The days are long gone when the number of fuel cars that can support two sanctioning bodies even exist. The numbers aren't there. And, the majority of ones that are heavy hitters have some sort of an exclusivity contract with NHRA anyway.
On top of that, NHRA has made attending a National event incredibly costly. If you want to take your spouse, and eat and sleep in some sort of civilization, prepare to shell out some big bucks and think about maybe skipping your mortgage for the next month or two.
This may, may just open up an avenue for some budget fuel cars to come into existence. And, seeing how the majority of fuel "fans" are there for the noise and smoke anyway, the reasonable prices and the attraction of still being able to buy groceries might just pay off.
Besides, they haven't messed with the "real racers", the rank and file who do this out of passion and not sort of business.
I think it is a novel idea....and it may pay off.

Yeah, great, they are leaving the sportsman classes alone. However, if the "booked in" pro show stinks, or the format can't draw a crowd, there won't be any IHRA to worry about going to after a short while. I hope for the sake of those who run IHRA that it works out, but I don't have much confidence in anything that comes from the "fertile" mind of Aaron Polburn.

So how far into next year are we going to get before the NEW Ihra starts getting accused of using "Hot" clocks for the show part?

Their statement "... a reduction in the number of days spent at the track and an emphasis on all things entertainment" pretty much sums it up: Less competition, more show.
What I'm wondering about is how the major pro-class teams responded to this idea...
It's my guess that the major pro class teams have already spoken to the IHRA hence this decision.
