I'm having trouble finding the main bearings for a 74 & newer 400 Chrysler. all i can find is the smaller flanged 383 bearings. i know their the same but the thrust main bearing sides are taller on the 74 & later 400 bearings & it looks like that would offer more support. am i making a bigger deal of it than what there really is? will the 383 bearings be just as good? would there be any benefit to the larger flanged thrust bearing?

There aren't a lot of bearings available for the low deck motors, you just have to run what you can find. The RB motor does have a lot more choices for main bearings, that is one draw back to running the low deck. But Koffel has been building low deck motors that make tons of power for years using the available main bearings so I guess it must not be too big of an issue.

876P with proper clearances and let it eat. Dont get too worked up about it.

I wanted to have King make some low deck bearings, but required 100 sets. Not done yet however...still looking into things.

Talk to Koffel and maybe Mancini Racing too. If a few guys got together the 100 sets would go quickly. Lots of guys would like to have a better bearing for the low deck but nobody has put up the money yet to do it.

i've been using the smaller bearings on my 512 750hp engine for years. they hold up well. but if bigger bearings became avail i'd be in.

They don't make them anymore. I had new main caps put in my 383 block, had it cut for the bigger thrusts and THEN I went looking for the bearings

i bought a set of the 876p bearings. the main bearings that came out of it look almost new, i'm thinking of putting all new bearings in it eccept for the thrust bearing & re-use the old thrust bearing that was in it. it looks great, but is that asking for trouble?

If the bearing came out of the motor and looks good i wouldn,t be afraid to reuse.

Is the car a 4 speed or does it have a 5000 rpm stall convertor and a transbrake ?

no the car has an automatic. i might put a 3500-4000 stall in it. transbreak? maybe in the future.
