Something I have always wondered about on the SS/AH motors. Has anyone ever tested on the dyno with a different or larger 4150 series carb than what is specified by NHRA rules? If so what was the results.
Thanks
Will

I've never done that, the stock carbs work fine if you do them right.

thats correct, we both broke. we also won the next 3 races we went to. You see when you are developing new parts, things break occasionally. it goes back to my way of breaking in new ideas before I pass them on to customers.
If I remember, your buddy jeffs flagship (keyes) layed down a 9.20 something, and we went 70 something. Thats only about 100 hp behind. we have been on the dyno all winter (we have a real dyno room, not one with headers blowing exhaust in it like MCH) and when we hit the track, everyone will get a wakeup call. That car that the fruit bought went 60's last I knew, now after his tune-up it goes .99. I wouldnt be throwing to many daggers my way.

Will any of the east coast SS/AH cars be heading
to Vegas for the HEMI shoot out at Mopars at the Strip at the end of March?

thanks bucky,, it was nice to talk to you on the phone for that few minutes on friday..

though it goes against better judgement,, ill say something here,, i wanted to get comfortable in the car on thursday but with the trans problem on my first run it kinda messed that plan up,, and then i missed the first two sessions on friday. the third session i just drove the car down the track to make sure all felt good,, after driving down straight through just about and working my butt off to get ready to go down there and get work out the door my mind wasnt in the best place,, so i wanted to take it easy. the 2nd pass for me was the best pass actually,, i couldnt hold the car on the foot brake with the 2-step and rolled through the lights,, i went 9.30 with a 1.7 60-ft,, then the 8.99 pass i tried to hit the brakes harder and rolled through again with a 1.4 60-ft.

i got my grade point,,i got comfortable in the car and comfortable with all going on with jerry's assistance and pointers. everyone was helpfull down there,,big joe,, jerry,, little joe,, tim,, todd,, daniel,, ryan and his stocker truck buddy,, warren barnett,, and sid especially for rebuilding the trans on friday morning while jerry and i were standing there.

i know i have work to do,, i dont mind it,, ill try to get done what i can and hopefully by the us nationals ill have my stuff together. my dyno is fine,, exhaust goes out the roof,, no issues there. i actually put a motor on and didnt change a thing for 6-7 pulls to make sure it would repeat and it was right on.

after taking the car out for the first time myself,, though jerry had all the bugs worked out,, me not racing too much in past years and not at this level i just wasnt prepared and learned what i need to do for the next time to go out,, things i need to change,, things i need to get,, i appreciate all the calls and emails from the super stock guys and stocker guys being supportive after i had such a bad weekend with things going wrong,, but i still had a good time..

jeff,, aka

that was for you bucky,,, lol

Hey Jeff congrats on making it back thru all that stuff. Now get your stuff together again and head to the MATS there will be a huge Moparts crowd there, many of whom are your customers and all around good racing. I know someone with a B1 ladder bar Cuda who is looking to line up against a SS/AH car for fun.

It was a plesure meeting you once again Jeff and I wish you the best of luck. You are right, you did have a lot of things going on at one time. If you want more help, pull that thing down for the Cajun Sportsnationals so we can show you more of our cajun hospitality. Maybe even get you to eat a crawfish.
Also maybe one day I will get to use the s.b.c. heads you did for me.

And what would be the point? I would think that these moders are too costly and time too valuable to try something just to try it when it's not legal...

moders? Those carbs are expensive. Just curious if 850dp or something similar makes anymore hp.

I remember back in the days of Modified Production there were SS/A cars that ran A/MP with bigger carbs on the cross ram manifold...I can ask around if it ever stops snowing.

The M/P cars were a few tenths faster, but we usally pulled the crossram in favor of a tunnelram and dominators. There was also extensive port work on the heads that you could not do on Superstock heads and be legal.Along with more overbore and higher compression pistons. Also the M/P cars were gutted and fiberglass doors and trunklids were used. So the cars were much more different than a carb change...
