Hi everyone, I've been out of the performance world for quite some time now (had kids), and need info on the latest greatest parts and services of the mopar world. I am building a pro street Cuda with a blown hemi and need advice on what combination to go with on the engine setup. I'm not looking to be the fastest car on the planet....I just want it to be a dependable pump gas blown hemi. I have a simease block notched for stroker crank, MP aluminum heads, and a Littlefield 8-71 blower that is rebuilt as the base for the engine project. Any advice on what engine shop to take it to? Maybe close to Mississippi?

Here is a link to the ad on Racing Junk where I just bought it. I have been looking at an alterkation k-frame to put in it so I can get a larger oil pan under it and have less trouble with exaust.

rowin4---I live in Hattiesburg. Call me at 601-408-9393 if you want to look anytime.

I want to put a top hat efi on it....I think that looks way too kool, but I'm concerned about an air filter. Don't want it to look like a mud racer. I think I need to talk to someone about the whole package, I have some ideas but I don't know what parts are available. Without knowledge, It would wind up old school. There's nothing wrong with that but it would be nice to have some better handling suspention and fuel injection for realibility. My problem is I have a starting point but dont know where to go from that. 8:1 compression was mentioned and a small roller cam, which is a good start. What about a stroker kit vs. just a stock crank? What is the advantages and dis advantages of carbs vs. EFI? What kind of oiling system? etc....

Oiling system you want is an external one that connects through the outside of the pan. Depending on the length of the pan, you might want a swinging pick-up, or for a shorter sump section, static pick-up. There are many different pumps that can be used. The feared failure on them is the gasket blows out and puts oil under the tires. Some of the newer pumps address this with and o-ring seal system call and ask when purchasing.

As far as EFI goes, the older classic FAST/BDS system will more than do the job and should run a little less $$ than two custom carbs. I suggest looking on RJ some more for a used classic batch fire system. The classic ones are plenty capable of running your set-up as long as the injectors are 60lb/hr or bigger. I run 83lb/hr. The Map is changeable and configurable for blown applications. Fuel pump will be at least one Aeromotive A1000, maybe two. I can send you the full fuel system diagram for what you need if you go efi. Check out my link below to my Cuda...

As far as stroker kits, there are many good ones out there. I called Ray Barton for most of mine which is 4.15" crank and +.060" pistons. The bigger the better in my mind until you run out of blower. We put a 10-71 on my buddies 474 hemi and it was just sick fast on pump gas. We didn't even change the pulley's from what we had with the 8-71 on it.

Dragula and DusterDave....thanks for the info. You both have awesome cars.

Dragula, looks like you have had several setups on your Cuda, which one works best on the street with pump gas?

Based on what was said so far, I need to go with the 528 stroker kit, light porting to gasket match the aluminum heads, (hardened seats?) 7.7:1 compression pistons, (what brand?) small roller cam, with 4.56 gears. What size converter?

The tunnel ram efi by far works the best. I like the bug catcher set-up, but when you get it right you need two seperate programs, one for street, and one for race because of the touchiness of the butterflies. My issue was lack of oil at the tip of the push rods. I will be fixing that on the next engine block I purchase. The drivability is awesome with efi, and mine fits all under the cowl hood. Click on some of the vids on in my link to the Cuda and I believe all are with the EFI on. The one where I just fire it up in an auditorium was the middle of Feb here in Buffalo and only 30*f out. The car was ice cold and fired right up while all the others wouldn't even run.....That is the street program in that vid. The one where I just crack the butterflies is the race program. About 70hp difference.

On yours, the bug catcher would mount on top of the blower with an injector plate right below it. If you go this route, talk with Rich of FASTmanEFI about injectors below the blower. I know he likes having injectors below the blower a lot better. With the FAST systems, you can do both on the same system. And I believe you can still use the classic FAST system that way, so keep an eye out on RJ.

Dave's car was truely a streetable 8sec car. I have seen it up close many times, and its an awesome car. He has gone off in a little different direction lately, and I kinda worry about him....If I posted the pic he sent me, I am sure you would all agree I am being under reactive about it, but I didn't want to encourage him further. It looks like it could be serious and he may need intervention followed by rigorus councelling. I have seen it before by people that were always broke and busy working on these old piles and out of the blue just decide one day to sell it all off and realize they now have some extra cash and nothing to do....Just kinda scary really.

Please refer to his location under his avatar. The pic he sent was pretty disturbing, but as friends, we try to understand and help during these kinds of transitions.
