I have a couple questions about crankcase evacuation systems.
1) How much of a difference do the really make over regular breather caps?
2) Does it have to be welded into the collector, or can it be welded into the exhaust just behind the collectors?
3) Is there much of a power increase to be gained?

The car will be used for street and strip (limited street use). I'm currently building a 414 stroker. Haven't got heads yet, but leaning towards Eddy magnums (Hughes prepped with roller rockers and beehive springs), and I already have an RPM Airgap for magnums. The cam I'm leaning towards is Hughes HEH3742AL (237/242@.050 .584/.592 lift). Running a 3500 Turbo Action converter on a race-built 904 reverse shift. Gears will be 4.56 and/or 4.10.
This is going in a '74 Duster (See the yellow one in Diego_Ted's avatar).
Thank you,
Dave

I never seen much or any gain on my 542 but it got rid of the pressure that builds up as you PVC quits working at WOT (no vacuum) and so it positively removes excess gasses.
Now keep in mind they will still work with mufflers but not as well. Mine are in the collectors on my muffler get up and in an header extension on my open set up.
The more open the exhaust like a 3" dynomax ultra flow and X pipe the will work fairly good but a closed down 2" system would not work.
Now on a street car you may in fact have to have a functioning PVC and a breather that has the tube to the breather so all gasses are recirculated. that's the way it is hear??

Mine are welded in the collector.. I have a 4.75 stroke crank in my motor and before i installed them the crank case pressure was so much that it was pushing oil out of my motor between the oil pan rail.(Lots Of it)now with these installed there is no oil leaks anymore and soon as i can afford it there will be a vacuumn pump on this motor..they are worth the effort....

I don't think you will see any power gains but the few inches of vac they can produce will have some benefits, you have to install the collector tube correctly to see good results, I found that by making the hole in the collector as close to the recommended position and installing a vac gauge on the nipple and running the engine while moving the nipple around you can find the proper place to weld it in, you will see while fooling with the nipple position that it will make a lot of difference in vac produced

First... if you have a exhaust system on the car
that has any back pressure it will decrease the
amount of vac.... the header style system will draw
a max of about 5"hg so if your exhaust has any more
back pressure than 5"hg it WILL blow the one way valve
and pressurize the crankcase... you can mount it
just after the collector.... the end of the tube
that mounts in the exhaust should be parallel to the
collector exit

ive had mine pull 9",, there is no limit,, depends on size of pipes, rpm, volume of exh flow

every 3" was worth 6hp for me

I shouldn't have much backpressure. I have Dougs Headers with a 2 1/2" X-pipe exhaust with Dynomax Mufflers. I also have cut-outs, so at the track when I'm really on it, it will be open.

Jeff, what size pipe are you running to get 9"...with
the standard "kit" I've never seen that much even at
8500 rpm in all the testing I did at Chrysler
