69 dart using my spare 741 3.23 open dif. Because of missing splines on yukon 28" axles. I used the wrong axle length with my 742 3.91 clutch type suregrip.
I was reading up on using C body and truck axles.
How costly is it to have an axle cut and resplined?

I am looking for the least expensive way to get the 742 back in action. I'm hoping it will hold up to 400hp for at least a year (without slicks)

Give Moser a call,i heard they're turnaround time is pretty quick and their work is the best out there, thats why I run their axles..

Remember that A body has a different backing plate if it hasn't been changed

going with c-body axles will give you the large brake offset at the flange end

so if you have the 1 3/4" brakes you will need to use the c-body backing plates and drums

some of the 4x4 truck 8 3/4 have the 5 on 5.5 wbp also

the axle needs to be at least 29" before the end tappers down to be a canidate for cut/respline

not all truck and c-body axle are canidates for this

DR Diff or moser

are you running green bearings?

Using green bearings.

I was doing some measuring and it looks like without those spacer deals I could order a 28 3/8 axle. There would still be an 1/8" of room. Is that enough? Mancini racing says the clutch type dif requires a 28 3/16 axle. Honestly there was 1/4" of splines ripped off. 1/4+3/16= 7/16 that doesn't seem like enough spline contact to me

How does the adj work if I DON'T go with the green bearings?

Beleive it or not, INNER spline engagement is only 0.4" on an early power-lock differential.

Off the shelf Yukon axles are actually 28 7/8", which is 1/8" shorter than they should be. If you remove the thrust button, you can run a 28 1/8" axle. Any thing longer will interfere with the internal cross shaft expansion in your sure-grip.

Keep in mind, the axles will measure 1/8" longer if you measure them diagonally.

BTW, I machine correct length axles for your application. E-mail me if you are interested.

The hurt axles I'm running right now work (with the 741 case)even though they are missing some of the splines.

Wondering if they will just become paper weights or if I should try and sell them letting the buyer know that they are messed up.
