I was thinking on buying an MSD unit for my duster. I was set on getting a 6AL box, but it seems to me that they are not very reliable and people are always looking for one or having trouble with one! I raced at Monster Mopar Weekend this last weekend and got beat buy a guy and after we got to talkin. He said he ran a Digital 6 Plus unit. Seemed like a really nice unit. Said it was around 300 bones. Anyone have any experience or input on which way I should go??

Another thing, my car is going to have a strong 340 in it with a 4 speed. Hoping to be in the 12's with 3.91 gears 26" tire.

Mine only lasted a year. The great customer service I got from MSD said I wired it wrong. No matter how many times I told them that I wired per their instructions they kept saying I did something wrong, doesn't matter that it ran for a year. According to them I'm a big dummy. So guess who's stuff I no longer use. We don't use their stuff on the funny car either.
I went back to the mopar chrome box. My performance is the exact same with the chrome box and it is much much cheaper. So cheap infact, I can carry a complete spare ignition system in my trailer for less than one MSD digital 6 plus.

I've run a 6AL in my truck for over 7 years no problems. But my friend's gone through about 2 AL's in just about as much time. He had his in the glovebox, mine's in the engine compartment, mounted on rubber mounts with plenty of air moving over it.
I also have a Digital 6 but it's not installed in the car yet...

I had an old 6A and when it went in about 2003, I put the Digital 6 plus in it. No problems. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

I've run a Digital 6+ in my 66 Charger street car for about 8 years and I'm satisfied with it. I actually use points to trigger it; they hold up well when they don't have to flow coil current.

My race car uses a 7AL3 and I swapped to the Digital 6+ once at the track for a few runs and the car ran the same, though the distributor had to be moved a little to get back to the same timing.

i ran one for a couple of years. had it mounted under the hood and it picked up RFI real bad. installed the shielded cable and it helped some but, had to mount inside car on the firewall to get rid of RFI. i sold it and bought a summit ignition box which i believe is made by mallory. the summit box has digital read out with a key pad for settings, i like it and i can see to set it easily.

I have one on my dakota snd I really like it. It has a single step retard that I use to pull timing when I spray it.I also has a build in 2 step if you want to run a transbrake.

Heading to a chassis dyno in a couple hours to diagnose a high speed miss. Car acts more violent than just hitting chip. Not sure if the Dig 6 is the cause of problem or not.
Not saying they are bad, because we do sell alot of those boxes and do not have many service calls, just not sure if my app exceeds the boxes ability. According to MSD tech, I'm blowing the spark out....

For a street/strip car its a good choice, just be conscious of the aforementioned interference

Good Luck

when mine had the RFI problem, it would act just as if it were running into the rev limited at 6300rpm.

Mine is mounted on the top of the battery box, in the trunk! Great place, if you are looking for a spot. Been there for years and years.
