I'm having some trouble putting the side cover on my transmission. It's an 833 4 speed but it is the one with the interlock levers. I was told to put the screwdriver in side there so they go into place but I can't seem to figure out how to get this done.

Also the trans is not original to my car. I was wondering what year it was. If someone out there knows how to decode them I would appreciate it. I thought it might be a '69 but a friend told me it was a later design.

Tailshaft: C-99539
SS

Main Housing: C-13546 B
28 20 79

9B248691 (Sequence #?)
PP8330869 (build date 08/69?)

Thanks a lot!

The 9B means it is from a 1969 model year car built at Hamtramck, so it is from a Dart, Barracuda of Charger.

Does it have one shifter mounting pad or two?

That's what I thought but it certainly doesn't look like the picture in my '70 shop manual unless for the model year '70 it was changed. It took me a while but I finally figured out how to get the side cover on. The trans had to be in neutral. The weird thing is when the operating levers are in the neutral position and I turn the input shaft the output shaft turns also. Seems like something is wrong. Thanks for your help.

I would check your PP8330869 numbers again. The date that I came up with is 12/14/63. See if the 0 is really a 2. I agree with Alaskan TA on it being a 1969 model year.

The trans is a mixmatch of parts. It's got a 69 model year partial VIN , that type of side cover didn't come into being till the 71 model year .

As far as the date you came up with , you might want to check that again because a 64 model year 833 didn't have that raised pad with numbers stamped on it , that didn't appear till the 68 model year so there is no way it's got a 12/63 assembly date , could be a typo though ?
