Would a higher octane fuel require more ignition lead? I'm thinking the higher the octane the slower the burn rate so more igntion lead would be required? But then again what I usually think is wrong.

Octane rating really has no impact on the "flammability" of a product. Octane = resistance to detonation. The higher the number the more resistant to detonation it is. AvGas is VERRY "flammable" and also has an octane rating of around 110.
Octane is an actual chemical:CH3(CH2)6CH3
However - Octane Rating (IE:92, 110, etc) is NOT an indication of how much octine is contained in a part of gasoline. It is just a reference to anti knock properties.

Anti knock due to a slower less explosive/sudden burn rate.
