How about getting back on topic.

Kyle DOES NOT need an intake as he already has an LD340. Whether the copies are junk or not is for another thread. Please stick with posting combos.

Thanks

Kyle you know my 360 combo pretty much. KB's, ported U heads, RPM performer, 268, 750vs, Dougs headers, runs OK.

The machinist/builder knows his stuff. He'll get you a good combo that will work.

Maybe we shouldn't discuss anything and leave it all up to the 'builders'....If everyone followed your advice, no one would learn anything. I might be a tad off topic, and the out dated LD340 might be the best intake ever made, but there are OTHER options, and some work better than others in certain combos.

Not the point of my post. I never said leave it to the builder and ignore all other input. Complaining about an intake manifold and it's quality is not what the thread was intended. It was beginning to turn into a byatch fest about chinese intake manifold quality.

Never said "leave it to the builder to make all decisions." He'll provide suggestions and it's the end users responsibility to choose. The guy potentially doing the build is real sharp. I personally think, if the buyer has an idea of what's desired, the outcome will be much better. In fact, the builders first question is usually "what are your performance expectation/needs?" People providing insight into what they have, how it runs is very pertinent to the "THREAD" and helpful in decision making. Sounds as though there are quiet a few people running similar style combos.

I've got a 360 roller motor that would be a great hard running street motor, but, totally inappropriate for a car that needs to be driven everyday as transportation as Kyle needs.

well my setup isn't nearly as Uber as some of the ones on here..but it's a decent budget build.

'76 360 block
.040" (don't know what pistons) but they are stock styled dish
compression i'm guessing around 8.5:1
reman'd heads w/ gasket matching (too poor for a shop to port 'em)
Crane 150052 cam 272H .454int. .454Exh.
about to pucker up for some Pro-Form aluminum rollertip rocker assemblies
Summit Air Gap Style intake manifold (works pretty good) with a 1" carb spacer
have 2 carbs i've been playin with on the truck right now is the Edelbrock 1406 w/ spring loaded needles and seats. The one that needs to be tweaked a wee bit and some more things added to it.. is the Holley 1850-3 600cfm.

For being in a lifted '76 powerwagon w/ 35's and 3.55 gears it still has some juevos.. but i'll see how it does with the new axles and the 4.10's..
for the budget conscious (retail prices):
360 .040" block - came with truck
Reman'd heads w/ gasket match - $300
Summit Intake Manifold - $179.99
150052 Crane Cam - $169.99
Speed Pro double roller timing chain - $39.99
Edelbrock 1406 - $280
Milodon 8Qt Truck pan - $220 (bleh)
Mallory Coil - $29.99
Taylor 8mm Wires - $29.99
1" carb Spacer - $19.99
Pro-form Rocker assembly - $305.90 (with required pushrods)
high volume oil pump - $25
= $1600 (some stuff was cheaper due to discounts)

Here's the combo going into my '70 charger. It isnt together yet but here's what I have -

'75 block bored .040 totaling 367 cubes..
*kb107 pistons+moly rings
*78 or so 360 heads shaved .020 with three angle valve job.
*doube roller timing chain
*513/533 lunati voodoo cam
*weiand xcelerator intake+1 inch carb spacer
*modified and blue printed 750 holley vacumn sec.
*el cheapo set of headers I traded for
*windage tray
*summit balancer
*Externally balanced assembly using stock rods and crank.
*Accel distributor

Cant comment on performance at the moment but will keep updating. This will be linked to a 904 auto w/a 2800 stall and 3.55 gears. Hope this combo will be real streetable for the heavier body. Was going to use a set of heads with 2.02 valves, but didnt see that I would gain that much by doing so???

I have about $1600 in it so far. Good luck with your project..

Daily driver and for strip use? How clean do you want the idle? If you were spending my money I'd go roller hands down. Use the smallest one if you want to run manifolds or the smallest thumper edition from Comp if you decide on headers. Follow that up with the RHS iron heads, 0 deck Probe piston with a healthy dish which pulls the compression under 10 to 1 and slap on a thermoquad of your choice!

Here's mine....

360 .030" over
Stock crank .020/.020
recon'd rods /w ARP bolts
Forged Speedpro flat tops
Balanced rotating assembly

Eddie heads
XE-274 cam
9.5:1
RPM Performer intake
Holley 670 Street Avenger
Hooker 1 5/8" long tube headers

It has very good street manors and pulls 13" of vacuum.

I'm guessing 400 horses. Hope to see a chasis dyno next spring sometime. Click to link in my sig to hear/see it running.

I haven't seen this option thrown out here yet so I'll bring it up.

I just put a '98 5.9 Magnum in my '71 Demon and it runs excellent. Here is what I did:

Complete junkyard engine with 87K miles ($700)
Replaced stock cam with Scott Brown cam 226/238 @ 0.050" .520 lift. Was able to use existing roller rockers ($350-ish) (may be a little excessive for street)
3-angle valve job and machine valve guides down to accomodate lift ($325) (Wouldn't need with smaller cam)
New valve springs/retainers to accomodate cam ($300+)(wouldn't need this will a small cam)
RPM Air-Gap intake ( I know you already have an intake, you could drill magnum heads to accomodate)
Car oil pan/dipstick (you already have one)
Stock timing chain cover and water pump from LA block (you already have this)
MSD distributor (you should already have a dizzy)
Flex plate ($80)
Headers (you already have those)

Many on this board said that by simply using the stock bottom end on a 5.9 Magnum and replacing the cam I would have the exact same motor as the old MP 380 horse crate motor(these have the same crank/rods/pistons as the stock truck Magnum motors) I went with a little more cam than the 380 horse crate motor so I'm thinking I have 380-400 horse.

For $1000 (using smaller cam then I did) and your existing parts I'm thinking pump gas friendly with ~360 horse

Have at it boys

be sure & have your machinist get .040" quench in each hole (thats why I love full floaters for ease of repeated dissassembly/mockup) so you can run the most CR possible with your cam choice and todays lousy gas. CR (squeeze) is power!
