Hey, so what is the VIN of the 76 warlock?

D13BD6S------

The truck was exported to Canada hense the speedometer in Km. The early history of the truck is not known. I am not sure if the Warlock package was added before or after it was shipped to Canada. Adventurer was simply another option package. From my understanding, the early Warlocks were created as an appearance package for trucks that had a hard time selling. Thus there is little known and no production numbers. In 1976-77 who would want a D100 2wd pickup with a big block?! Had to load it up with options just to push it out the door.

the warlock had unique options, so i don't think just sprucing it up for sales was the idea. tuff wheel, gold wagon wheels, chrome side steps along w/miles of gold pinstriping.
GK9 is supposed to be the code for warlock package but i've never seen it on an equiptment decal. my guess it would be on the shipping invoice and maybe buildsheet.

according to my information, there were 70 dodge utiline dodge trucks that were built that started off with the VIN number D13BD6S. This would include all models (custom, adventurer, adventurer sport, adventurer se, and the package trucks like the warlock and true sprit).

Lil Reds were predestinated from the factory to be Lil Reds. But were Warlocks, Midnight Expresses, and True Spirits destined from the factory that way? I thought it was more of an individual dealer sales gimmick for declining sales and leftover inventory. It was just an appearance package. When they found it was working, they increased the efforts of the “Adult Toy” campaign. Does anyone have any original 1976 literature that mentions Warlock? I have only seen the brochures in later years.
In the late ’80’s - early 90’s Mopar did a similar thing with the “Mopar Express” kit for the Dakotas. I know a dealer who ordered one to put on a leftover Dakota they couldn’t sell.

dynotune 440, is that the number for 1976? Any idea of how many left? I guess that would make it pretty rare.
Where do you get the other statistics of how many utilines with each engine size were built in 1976, 1977, 1978? Just curious. For example, Black Warlock’s pickup is one out of how many that start with D13BF7S?

the true spirit was the precursor to warlock. did they tweak it a bit and come up w/warlock. i've seen only 2 different color true spirits and both were different body's a utiline(all were same color) and a sweptline(was blue). the swept didn't have the striping.
i have sales and dealer lit and nothing is mentioned about warlocks or true spirits in dealer order books. so hard to say. warlock is mentioned in sales brochures for 77.
don't have much before 76 as far as dealer stuff.
here is a pic of a 79 TS, notice stripe similarity.

Who at Dodge was behind the marketing strategy for these trucks?! Names like Warlock and True Spirit could have definitely backfired on them.
Maybe this is why they waited a year before putting anything in print.

Typically, auto manufacturers don’t resort to images of witchcraft to gain popularity among the general public. Now the names are quite fitting because these trucks are very “mythical” – little information is know for a fact. I still haven’t run across one of those rare Warlocks that “looked EXACTLY like yours but with the big block HEMI 6-pack, 4spd, with stacks……...

mmmm... sure... ok - you know the type!

That is the number for 1976 units only as I stated before. There is no information on how many other utiline trucks were made with the VIN"D" code 440, unless Machoman knows more. I have no idea how many are still out there, but I would have to immaginge that there are not too many left out there. There were no 131wb utilines in 1976 with VIN"D" 440 engines. Also, there is no information on other trucks other than the 1978 D14BD8S trucks, and the Lil Reds.

Well, one of the guys was Tom Hoover, and the other guy I can't remember his name. Tom was inspirational in the conception of the LRE. The names did actually backfire on them, in 1979 the name of the warlock changed to warlockII. This change was of a law suite from the warlock motorcycle gang stating that the name was theirs and mopar was infringing on their rights to the name. as far as rare birds goes, they are out there, but in some cases, some of those rare birds look like they were made that way by their owners, rather than the way they rolled off the assembly line.

Interesting about the Warlock II. I never knew that was the reason behind that.

The comment was reflecting on people's little knowledge about these trucks (not you in particular). It seems like they is always one in the crowd at a car show that starts telling you that they had the exact same truck but instead turns into a list of every Mopar word they know. Or think they think you ripped the stacks off a Lil Red, painted it, and put custom gold pin striping. Very few people know about the Warlock package even if they own a Mopar.

Now back to our regular scheduled program...

I have been reluctant to ask this question.

Has anyone ever seen a Warlock with a Warlock decal on it?

I remember as a kid seeing a 4x4 Warlock in the "hood" (not to far from where I live now) that had a decal depicting a Warlock / demon looking "man" in the same location as the True Spirit script.

When I have posed this question to Mopar car people in the past they all laughed and thought I was stoned. Not then I was 10 years old and on my way to church.

Has anyone ever seen this?

it would have been added, there was a green 78 warlock in minnesota that had a warlock decal on the hood(kinda demonic looking too) that was on ebay about 2 years ago. My guess it would have been added by the owner, as mopar only did striping back in the day

Man thats funny you bring that up .. I almost had a guy up here put that on my truck . A buddy of mine has a model of a warlock with the WARLOCK Demon face on the hood. I was very close to doing it... till the guy told me how much it was going to cost. That made my mind up right there.

I have a question for you guys.....
which project should I address next summer?
1978 d150 swb 2wd 440 truck -or- 1977 d150 swb 440 warlock. The 78 is lowered, and will need some attencion to the engine. the 77 is a basket case that will need frame repair and a lot of stuff. Anyhow, any opinions?

I'm assuming the 78 is a sweptline? Warlocks are cool but more common at shows....The sweptine (?) is more of a sleeper... I'd pick the easy one first while gathering parts for the warlock.

Or you could sell one to finance the resto of the other???
