Mopar says 108

No, mopar says 106! Ive only installed it at 104.5 * advanced and above. This cam can and will make power you just need to match the rest of the combo. Great cam IMO.

But if your intentions are for a more streetable designs there are some other options. mike

The LSA is 108,recommended ICL is 106. At least the MP catalogs that I have. If your trying to crutch a combo without enough converter, comp, gear, etc installing it a little earlier may help.I just pulled a customers 8.5 to 1 comp 360 with the 292 cam installed 2+ retarded, upped the comp 1 point, installed a shorter duration Ultradyne hyd and the customer is .

You are correct! The MP catalog lists the Cam centerline as 108. But that 108 represents a Cam Lobe sep of 108*

It also states a 106* installed centerline of 106* witch represents crank degrees.

It can get confusing, mike

Not as good as the above 10.52/3250# combo But with more comp. 12.5 or so 9.9?s or so wouldnt be a problem. mike

Many, many moons ago. I had a .509 stick in a 400 (no strokers in those days) in a 3200# Duster. On Dunlop qualifers and with a 10" B&M converter and 3.91s, Holley SD intake and 750 Holley, it went 13.30's through those "killer" turbo muffs...

I swapped in 4.30's and a tightened up J converter and went 12.70's. Added a glass 6-bbl hood sealed up and slicks and went 12.40's. Uncorked it went 12-teens.

Sprayed in with a homemade nitrous deal and went 11.50's...just sprayed one too many times...the cast slugs weren't up the task. Man, those were fun days!

I ran one, for all the hype surrounding the cam there are better grinds out there.. That said with at least a true 9.5 C/R a loose convertor, plenty of gear & properly tuned it will run strong.. Or you can cheat, not use as much gear or as loose of a convertor.. Instead throw some Rhoads lifters at it & the cam will Rock & Roll from just off idle to 6,000 easy... When I first put that car together it had 3.91's & a loose no name convertor.. The gears were noisey the first time I drove it & got much worse very quickly... I had no extra cash & a good set of 3.23.. I also had a B&M Holeshot & a brand new set of Rhoades lifters... One night of wrenching & I was ready to go for a drive... It ran way better set up that way than it ever did with the normal setup... Sounded cool too with the lifters clattering like soilds..

I have just purchased the s/a design book; Max Performance Big Block Mopar.
In one part he tells how he tried many, many cams & found the Mopar :525 lift, 112LSA without a doubt by far the best cam to use.
I'll get the book off my fishing boat tommorrow & scan the page & post a reply here with the relevant topic.
This book is so damn good. I have a very good mechanical apptitude & it has taught me more in a language that anyone with resonale knowlede of engines will find extremely informative.

I wouldn't use either, unless you have a 3000+ stall and 3.91's or better. Much better cam choices out there. Also DO NOT use the Eddy 750 if you must use an Eddy carb use the 800. For general street use I'd go with a modern split duration cam w/ a 110 or better centerline. Something in the 230-240@ 50 and 500-510 lift.

(3000 stall and 391's or better) I don't know why everybody is stuck on this. My 70 valiant with stock 77 shortblock, 509 cam, stock steel heads. 3500 chepo converter and 3.23 gears runs great on the street and on the track.
11.90's @115 first time out less than 3,500 in the whole car. It idles @ 900rpm in gear, and has gobs of low end grunt.

think how much better it'd run w/ the right convert gear and compression. or a better cam.

As was said that cam will rock & roll with the right combo behind it. It likes alot of quick ign advance and and the cam set in the 102 to 104 area. And of course you need the gear and converter to make it work. As for gas milage.............if you worry about that you are in the wrong hobby. Ron

Comparing the newer comp cams version to the MP one is not an apples to apples comparison.
You can use this cam with less than 4.10 gears and 3500 stall and get good results.A lighter car will not suffer as much as a heavy car in this situation.
Case in point 25 years ago I had a 440 6pak in my 70 charger r/t with the .509 cam,4 speed, and 4.10 gears. It ran like a raped ape.I put the same motor in my 72 charger behind an auto with a 2000 stall and 3.23 gears and it was a PIG until you got above 3000rpm.I was 19 years old and that was my first lesson in gearing(lack of) and camshaft operating rpm.

the "instructions" that came with my narrow lda 509 said put it in straight up (108). i put it at 107.5. it's in a 3350# scamp, 496, 10.33:1, 4200 stall. the thing has huge power everywhere, and, yeah. it sounds bad ass! i couldn't be happier. btw, it runs 7.0 at a slow track on drag radials!

for what is the good life if not doing things thoughtfully?

I have this cam, Comp 292/299 .509/.509 in the 440 in my '69 Charger. The engines zero decked, Keith Black flat tops, Crane Gold race roller rockers, Edelbrock closed chamber heads, Torker I intake, Holley 870 Street Avenger, Rhoads lifters , etc etc.

It has a B&M 3200 converter and 3.55 gears.

The car flat out hauls ass, I don't get where the "no low end power" is coming from here . It launches hard and drives extremely well under 3000 rpm even with the 3.55 gears.

The only thing I don't like is the noisy Rhoads lifters, but they do help the cam out, 15-17" vaccum at idle ( I added a vaccum canistor where the battery used to be).

You don't like the Rhoads Lifters, take them out & suddenly you'll know where the "no low end power" comments are coming from... 15-17hg of vacuum.. of course it runs normal.. Try it with normal lifters where you start with 6hg after tuning you get 9-11hg...
