I'm looking to find pics of correctly restored 340's for 68 and 69. Or post the visual differences between the two years. like air cleaner and valve covers.

The 68 drivers side exhaust manifold heat shield gasket is 1968 ONLY

Bill,
do you have a pic that shows how the heat shield is different?
Or was the heat shield 68 only?

Is this a 68 340?
It seems the air cleaner has a smooth finish and the tube comes out in front of the breather. Could be the same just mounted different?
Also the valve covers look like regular 318 covers.

Here's the 69 340 I plan to put in my 68. I just want it to look correct for 68.

Red paint & '68 valve covers are the biggest visual differences you will encounter.

In addition to what's already been posted, the carb numbers and the 1968 manual transmission engine had a slightly bigger cam. I was pretty sure my 1969 340 had the shield on the LH manifold. I think I tossed it when I rebuilt the engine. Probably a bad move looking at what MP wants for a new one.

Dingmaster, be careful using those old B&W factory photos as a 100% accurate references, it's possible that it/they could be of a prototype/pre-production car that was used for promo shots.

If you look closely at the heat shield on the picture above you can see the difference. 1968's have a gap between the shield butterfly portion of the shield. as opposed to the 69-72 shield (pic is attached ) the 2 pieces are longer and thus joined in the center
