Already have the engine? If not, seek out a 400 to start with. Same main bearings/crank. Much bigger bore to start. Check out 440source.com, I have good luck with their product so far.... no comments needed, just leading him to an option.

thanks guys. yeah i already have the motor. i'm going to pull it this winter to fix a rearmain leak. the motor is zero deck(.005 below) stock crank and rods with kb162. being zero deck already does that have a negative effect on the stroke. i will call 440 source later. i'm looking for some insight/ experience outside of a supplier. would like to use the same block, intake and heads cut to already. only one season on it so bore clean up should be easy.
Well is it zero deck or .005 in the hole ? That KB piston , which sucks , is .024 in the hole on a factory spec block so you either have .019 cut off the block or .024, Which is it ? You should be able to use a shelf stock piston for that build and be ok with what you have depending on the head choice .

it's .005 i just say zero because thats easier. i used the kbs with 452 heads. later changed to eddy performer closed chamber, cut the heads to get my cr up. thats why i want to use the same block, heads and intake. 440 source list it at .025 in the hole, i guess thats on a stock/uncut block. thinking i will end up about the same as now so maybe my cr and piston to valve will not change.

Sounds like you have it figured out , I'm building a 383 based stroker also , 3.9 stroke , 1.32 ch piston with a 6.700 rod .
What size overbore is your block at ? What rod are you planning on using ?

Unless you go with a dished piston with the stroker kit, the extra stroke will cause your compression ratio to go up.

that depends on the stroke , to get the compression I needed with a 4.280 bore and a 3.9 stroke crank I had to put a 12 cc DOME on the piston . A flat top is only good for about 10.7 .
