I have a pair of horns that I removed from a '70 Challenger years ago and instead of the usual week/year date coding, these are stamped 14 C and 15 C. Any ideas how to decode the dates on these horns?

These dates are from a set of Prestolite horns on a 70 Cuda.

Snoopy- These are Prestolites as well and are original horns, just with odd style date codes. This car was rotting in a field since '76 and I doubt they were replaced. The other '70 E-body Prestolites that I own have the same style week/month as what you pictured.

Are they stamped in the same place?

I have a couple of spares buried somewhere out in the garage. If I can find them and they are the same as yours, I will post a picture.

Hopefully someone will chime in with a good answer.

Could they be over the counter horns?
It would be interesting to see the markings on an NOS horn.

The letters refer to calendar year.

C 70

D 71

You would think it would be F and G, respectively, but that is not the case.

The number is the week.

The original horns (they actually still work)from my 71 Cuda convertible (SPD 3/31/71) are as follows:

High: 48C

Lo: 6D

Bill Rolik

Wow, thanks Bill! I there a chart showing how the letters translate into years?

I found this on the internet.

According to the last paragraph on the page in the picture, some of the customers dictated the method of date coding. That would explain the two different styles of date codes.

Does anyone have any pictures of 70-71 E-Body horns with the Week/Year layout?
Example: 23 0 - 23rd week of 1970.

Please post pictures of date codes, SPD and plant where your car was built.

I am just trying to establish when they went to the the Prestolite method of date coding on the production line. Example: 23 C

I am interested in seeing when Prestolite changed to the alpha (C&D) codes on production line horns. It appears that this was their preferred method of date coding outside of Chrysler.

If you have known original production line installed Prestolite E-Body horns with the alpha codes, example 23 C, please post some pictures and the SPD and plant where your car was built.
