A-body 493 stroker had a real bad overheating problem. Changed from a 22" to 26" aflo performance series radiator, perma cool electric fan 2950 cfm. I'm running a meziere electric waterpump. I went with the zerex o5 mixed 50/50 and waterweter. This is on the street now... 185-190 running down the road. stoplight's 200-210+. It seems to recover once I begin to move back to 185-190. I feel this is still to hot? Gottta be enough radiator? Go back to a stock water pump? 180 thermostat from napa.

You could possibly have air in the system. Did you drill a 1/8" hole in the thermostat to bleed air?

Do you have a fan shroud?

If it were mine I would suspect the electric WP. It wouldn't be too hard to swap back to the old one and try it.

No shroud, never heard of drilling a 1/8 hole in thermostat but I'll give it a try. Where can i pick up a aftermarket shroud?

(At idle) either the elec pump is not moving the water fast enough or not enough airflow thru the rad or a combination of both. Unless elec WP's are inadequate at idle(never used one) I'd suspect (lack of) airflow. Need a shroud and a properly spaced thermal clutch fan

All things considered, 185-190 running is perfect. 200 at speed on really hot days isnt even that bad.

200-210 on warm to hot days at idle or at a stop light isnt really considered overly hot as well. Some like to keep it cooler, but those temps are ok and not causing any damage or issues. Its when temps get over 220 that I would begin to get a tad concerned.

That tells you it's an air flow problem. I had to add a pusher fan on the front side of the radiator because of the same problem. I offset the two fans to different sides of the radiator. You could try a shroud but that might not be enough.

210 is OK. Forget all the fancy stuff. Run stock clutch fan, shroud etc. 180 SuperStat from Napa.

Unless you are running an OE electric fan or a SPAL, i don't think you are getting near that cfm you posted. I'd spend a few bucks on a nice set of SPAL fans or use one of the many OE fans discussed on moparts in other threads. If you searched, you would find many options. guys are running everything from minivan fans to lincoln mark VIII fans to mercedes fans....oe's seem to be really good fans.

edit...what about putting one of those square house fans in front of the car idling in your driveway to test. If it stays cool, you know you need more airflow. At worst you could eliminate airflow as the culprit
