was this car a factory 4 speed or converted? If converted they welded the Z bar bracket in the wrong place.

Are you running a lakewood bellhousing? Stock z-bar for your car should be 9" long.

yes i am running a lakewood scatter shield on the car. do i need to trim the z bar down? it fit pretty tight when i had a bellhousing on it but now i need like 3/4 of an inch or so. the car was an original 4 speed car.

I had the same problem with a Lakewood scattershield on my 70 Charger RT that is an original 4speed car also. I measured and trimmed the Z bar to make it fit. Check and make sure your z bar is fairly level to your bracket and is not misaligned or you will have shifting problems.

How much did you trim off and from which side?

Do you have the ball studs on the correct sides.

I had to cut .625" off of mine with the Lakewood setup. Cut the frame side to keep better geometry on the shorter cluch rod.
