I am conveting my 72 Dart from 6 to a V8 (360) is it necessary to have the center link that has the drop in it or will the pan clear...I have a chance to buy one that is cleaned up and powder coated for 50 bucks...but if I dont need it I wont buy it...also will I need anything else such as the pitman or idler arms? I am converting to disks. I read if I am using a 904 I do not need a new tranny mount...true?..also anyone sell new centerlinks? What about window trim while I am at it? Thanks for the input

Save your money, slant six and V8 A bodies have shared the same centerlink since '66.

What B5 said, 68-72 are the same along w trans mount. We just put a BB in a 69 /6 valiant and the /6 link has only a SLIGHT bend. Perfect fit.

If you currently have the 4" bolt circle drum brakes and going to swap to the common 4.5 disc brake setup(73 up duster,Dart, etc) you will need the drag link to fit that vehicle. The pitman and idler arms are different as well between the pre 73 drum and 73 up disc front ends.So it depends on the drag link your looking at. Do the Idler and pitman arm studs point up or down when installed?

That's really confusing... appears to imply that you have to use the 73+ centerlink with a BBP conversion.

You do not have to use the 73 centerlink with a conversion.

You can use the 67-72 centerlink/pitman/idler when installing the later 73+ BBP brakes. Done it a bunch. No need to change over to the 73+ centerlink unless you want it that way.

To answer the OP question, all 67-72 links are the same, no v8 or /6 difference.

Did you check bump steer after your conversions? I did this swap 5 years ago and without changing the idler, pitman, and draglink the car was undrivable. Changed to the parts mentioned for the 73 up car and it's been fine. You think it was a coincedence?

Yep, coincidence.

However, the 73-up link will give greater clearance when installing a big block due to the orientation of the idler and pitman arm studs.

Only time it should be mandatory though, unless you're using some sort of deep oil pan that needs it.
