how much play is normal for the rear driveshaft bushing
i have about 1/8 up and down movement.
seems excessive to me.
how can you tell when the bushing is worn ?

1/8 inch is way to much, if you look at the bushing there will be 2 oil groves cut in it if it bad you wont see much if any of the groves.

At least if you have to replace it, you do not have to remove the transmission, just the tail shaft section.

if you have the right tools you don't have to remove the tailshaft housing

Cool, I did not know there was a tool that would remove the bushing with the output shaft in place.
I just use a bushing driver, so the tail shaft has to be removed, which really is not a big deal.
