I looked at the wiring diagram a couple of different times, but still could not see where the 2 unconnected wires in this picture are supposed to go.

You can see the thicker blue wire (12 gauge maybe) is connected to the coil, but the other blue wire with the female bullet terminal just hangs loose.

And the brown wire with the ring terminal - same thing.

Sure would like to know where they should go.

Had the car for years, pretty sure these have never been connected.

I think that brown wire is the tack wire that goes to the - side of the coil. The other wire I'd bet goes to your distributer. It probably had an electronic retard on there that needed that wire for power and another wire from the carb for ground.

It looks to me like you are running a later model alternator? I cannot verify at the moment. I believe that the brown wire should terminate on the alternator - at the post that has the plastic shroud protecting it. The blue wire is a dedicated (key on) 12 volt connection that goes to the idle solenoid.

Is it an air conditioning car? I recall the lead to my AC clutch being blue and running along the passenger side valve cover.

Thanks for the replies, I’ll check into these things.
I know the brown wire isn’t for the washer fluid pump – that wire is wrapped up with the wire to the horn, and that part of the harness is barely visible in the pic at the bottom leading off towards the fender.

I’ll try to figure out if it could be the original tach wire – that’s a good possibility, also I wonder if my broadcast sheet would help me find out if the car originally had one of those electronic retard boxes. Would that have been an optional factory item?
I just noticed a post yesterday with a picture of what I think was one those things.
Looked like it had that bullet connector.

70mopes – I’m not sure if I have a later model alternator, but sure would appreciate any info as to how I can tell. Never really looked into it, but I do remember reading some info on here in the past about it.
If that brown terminal is supposed to connect to the alternator, any idea what it is for? Car starts, runs, and charges fine. As for the blue wire, I think you are saying the same as MoreParts, right?

Paul – no AC on my car now, but I can check the broadcast sheet and see if it was originally, to see if that is a possibility.
