Why do you feel you need the hood made out of CF ?
I don't. I'm just looking for the lightest hood I can get my grimey paws on.

Is it worth TWICE(or more) the cost of a regular FG hood to you ?
Plus there are probs with delamination. Normally - this cost/benefit factor can only be justified by Pro Stock racers and all F1 teams.
I myself have ZIP experience with CF .. but I have talked with material suppliers that know about the process and sell materials to shops that do that work.
In their opinion ... CF is highly OVERrated.
Right now I have a new fiberglass pin-on hood w/ a 4in 6pak scoop.
Its fairly heavy.....about twice as heavy as a friend of mine's glass Chevelle hood with a 4in cowl.
I'm building an 8sec smallblock car and trying to get it as light as reasonably possible.
I know what it costs to build composite. I had a composite Hemicuda' built and I own the mold. It ain't cheap.
Maybe I should have asked who builds the lightest hood off the shelf.
I could have my guy make one, but it pretty expensive from scrach.

How much does that hood that you have now weigh ?
Its an hour away at the chassis shop.
I'll get him to weigh it when I get a chance. If I had to guess, at least 25lbs.
I'm probably going to sell it, get a flat hood, cut a hole and put a good aero scoop, mounted in the correct spot.

AT LEAST 25 lbs .... Who the hell made that one ? I have made a race-hood that was properly braced and had a 68 ss scoop on it ..and it maybe weighed 11 lbs. ALSO .... would you like to have a hood with a rear cowl section?(so the hood goes all the way back to the windshield)

WS made it.
I just talked to my chassis guy. He would love a hood that wil go to the windshield so he can cut the cowl out a move the firewall back.
Shoot me a phone number.

I asked about it, they couldn't get any carbon fiber when they did my new one. That was 1.5 years ago. My lift off from Glasstek is all of 25#'s.

Jim ... sorry .. but that mold for that hood is long gone. I also had ones for ALL A bodies.. Barracudas, Darts and Dusters.
You have the firewall even with the windshield or even further back yet ?
Are you in a big hurry for the hood ? I have got a BUNCH of people who want a 70-72 Dart hood. I could just REmake the new mold with the cowl one-piece(on my other mold I had to attach the cowl mold to the hood mold).
The guys who don't want the cowl ..could just cut-it-off.
Let me know.

I made my own carbon fiber hood on my car... I originally made the mold for a fiberglass hood but after a few years I didnt like it... plus it was heavy(the scoop was mounted to the hood). I used the same mold to make my CF hood but this time I made the scoop separate so I could mount it to the engine.... my hood weighs 8# if I remember correctly (been a while since I weighed it) but thats the hood... not the scoop
