I watched this soap opera for days without comment. But now I have to, you have a willing prospective buyer come over and do ALL YOUR HOMEWORK for you and still wants to buy the car and you send him home empty handed??? Now after all his hard work and school teaching he still has to wait and compete with the other two guys and the rest of the internet?? You should have wipped that egg off your face and sold the man the car!

No problem.

But, I disagree with the fendertag being mandatory for future purchases.... but I believe this shows the difference between a mopar person and someone wanting to get the best return for their purchase.

I submit to you:

I just purchased a 74-360 challenger with a running drivetrain, a little lower quarter rust, and the paint is a 10' quality. I purchased it with money from the sale of our 66 charger racecar 3 months earlier. I started thinking Chevelle, then realized a mopar was better for my image...lol

The Challenger was purchased at a good price, I believe, and I knew the fender tag was probably never to be found as the young man I purchased it from said they bought it as it looked today 14 years ago, and the missing fendertag holes had no sign of the screws messing up the pained holes... IE the car was painted with the tag off. He thinks he may have it, but it had been moved several times after his dad passed. I have a 99% chance of NOT getting the tag.

It is a well optioned 74 car, 360-4 bbl auto, ralley, console, B5 Blue. I assume the tag would increase the value several years from now when 74's are more liked, but my intentions for this car is a driver.

So, after all that said....lol....the lack of fender tag is of interest to more Mopar people who may buy your car, but a person wanting to drive it, this should be of little concern.

And I agree with the above, if the guy who came down was willing to come close to your price, you should sell it... but I also understand wanting to get the most $ for it.

But, if a LIVE, local guy who agree's to it's value is available, it is better than the EBAY guy who wins it, comes to see it and starts in on "nit picking" things not mentioned in the add. Every sale is open to critisism.... no offense to your add, just the way it is on ebay.

Good luck,

Allen

I have installed one of these sunroofs in a 71 Duster before. You can not tell that I added it unless you looked under the headliner because then you will see where the entire top of the roof was cut out and the sunroof top was welded in. The factory ones will shows no signs of this being done. The sunroof opening will be moulded in as part of the whole top. When I did this, I had to remove the "cloth and bow" headliner and go to the junk yard and get a cardboard headliner from a 73- sunroof car and install it. People that look at the car will know it was added since there was no cardboard headliner being made back in 1971. By the way, the parts for the crank back sunroofs were made by VW.

The reason i did not sell it to Louis was i already had set up for the other 2 guys from out of state to look at it today.I called both of the other guys last night when louis the high bidder at the time was here looking at the car to explain the roof not be a original and told the other guys it was added on.If the other two guys would of told me that they had no intrest on the car i would of closed the auction and sold it right there. But since they came today, they both were ok with the car and also wanted to buy the car, and to be fair i was going to let the auction run out.If it sells for less then 10,500 louis will be happy and if it goes over 10,500 someone else will be happy.

What happened to all the guys who were ripping into me, i would like to hear from them now that a 71 demon did come from the factory? I took alot of abuse of this, and i took it personally because i am not the kind of person some of you made me look? Read the post from the collector in Flordia, maybe someone here knows who he is.

I didn't rip you but your 71 Demon wouldn't be a factory sunroof car. Possibly a dealer wanted one for his showroom and had the ASC sunroof installed in a 71 Demon at the end of the model year to show what a 72 would look like with the sunroof. You still can't call it a factory optioned car though.

I had what is probably the only 1976 Volare RoadRunner with T-tops as they didn't come out till 1977. The dealer had them installed using the upcoming factory parts as it was his showroom car.

Why doesn't someone ask Mr. Norm ? hes still around ! so is most of the paperwork of cars sold through his dealership. His 6-pac & paxton cars are not factory but dealer installed packages and a lot of those Norms demons were on the striped down side to keep the cost of the car down after his modifications. So maybe he sent one or two per owner request for sunroofs?

A hair off topic, but regarding sunroofs, i am in the car business.
As recently as 5 or 6 years ago, all sunroofs i am aware of are all sent out by the manufactures to get installed, at least on GM stuff this is true. The roofs werent installed on the assembly line.Third party companies do them.

Attached please view for your enjoyment the letter sent to me from Alan Poncher at Grand-Spaulding Dodge regarding all the options available on the 71 Demon GSS 340 6pack car I was going to order. A sunroof option wasn't on it but this was just for the GSS; says nothing about the std Demons...my 2cents

I just pulled out my buildsheet and there is a code slot in section 9 "moulding-exterior trim" for a sun roof. At the top of the page it says G Series 1971....does this mean it was available?

The G-series build sheet was used for several different car lines. The M51 power sunroof was available on 1971 Satellites, Roadrunners, GTXs, Challengers, Chargers, Furys, Newports, New Yorkers, 300s, and Imperials.
