Anybody know if Superbirds are supposed to have the tire size callout in raised letters on the sidewall or no tire size callout on Polyglas tires? From what I've read, Birds were built in the changeover period when Goodyear went from no tire size call out to the tires having the tire size on them (10/31/69 to 1/1/70). Which tires are correct?

Thanks in advance.

a friend of mine used to own a un-restored bird and it still had the original spare in the trunk

there were no size call outs on it ,and it was one of the last birds built

my bird still has the orig spare it it does have the tire size on it

i have seen pics of new birds that had no size tires

so it sounds like a running change thing somewhere between october + december during the bird production run

if you want to get real technical, find out if the car has 14s or 15s + then ask the question specific to that tire size

The car in question has 15 inch rallye wheels, so it would be F60-15 specifically.

You guys are correct, it was a running change for the tires to have size call-out or no-size. I was told that it was staggered coming out of the Goodyear plants, that they did not change them all overnight. I know that some get really tied up in knots, but if the build date falls in the October- December time frame, the tires they had in stock would be what was put on the car.

By the way, whatever type you are looking for, hit me up!!!!

A Superbird I had a few years ago still had all 4 of it's original tires which were F-60-15's. According to the list it was built Dec 2 1969. It had the TIRE SIZE in white letters.

Nice! Thanks guys. That's the kind of info I was looking for. I realize that birds could be built randomly with or without the size callouts, but was just looking for rule of thumb or exact info specific to build dates like you've provided. Keep the info coming if you've got it. Thanks.

Does this only apply to F60-15's or the E-60's as well? I don't think I have seen or heard of any no-size E60-15 tires My 'Cuda has a SPD on November 5th, 69 if that helps...

E60's were only made with E/S (elevated size). The difference was that tires available prior to the 1970 model year.... F70-14's (68 1/2 428 SCJ Mustangs and '69 COPO Chevies) E70-14's, and F60-15's (Boss 429 Mustangs, '69 Hurst/Olds, etc) were the only ones to have the N/S (no size). The transition was between October '69 and December '69.
