i just pulled my cluster from by 68'dodge coronet standard non ralley cluster, i painted the pointers and replaced the cluster, everything work fine, i cranked the car and everything worked, i began putting the switch panel and the lower dash back on, i wanted to test the cluster one more time before i had everything back together , so i cranked the car back up and the fuel and temp guage was not not working, the right blinker not working either, however both blinkers work when the flasher is turned on, where do i start trying to hunt down what i apparently messed up? i have a spare gauge cluster and i plugged it in to test it and the fuel and temp not working on it also, the only other thing i did is i replaced the brake light switch while i was in the dash, and i had tested the cluster before i installed the switch, i am not good with electrics on my car, i just need to be pointed in the right direction to keep from messing anything else in the process of trying to find what i did?

If you have access to a '68 Dodge Factory Service Manual there should be a troubleshooting procedure.

I wonder if a connection came loose or if a wire burned or component burned.

Of course, you have checked your fuse panel, right?

Not sure if it applies, but the instrument cluster on my 1979 Jeep CJ-5, the Temperature and Fuel-Gauge are interconnected and (sort of) power each other.

In the diagnostic chart, if both gauges fail, it gives you an idea about the specific underlying cause.

Make sure to ground the cluster.

Yes, good grounding can affect cluster performance. You could try using a jumper-wire to ground the instrument panel.

how do i ground the cluster, i have the cluster screwed into the dash, is there some other ground that i may be over looking? it was working fine when i first plugged it in, then i put in the stop light switch, i must moved a wire, however i have looked at the wires for so long they are all looking the same, i figure someone who has done this before could give me helpful hits in locating what i have apparently done to a wire?

how do use a jumper wire, where do i put this jumper ground wire? and if this works, do i leave the jumper wire, or do i continue to look for the ungrounded wire?

Usually the screws will ground the cluster, but not all the time. We had this problem on my friends '70 Charger. We just used a piece of wire to make a ground strap from the cluster to the dash frame.

Agree with 451, usually the screws are supposed to create an acceptable ground, though you could attach a dedicated grounding-wire/strap to the IP.

Just to see if it works, you could make/buy a jumper-wire and try that to see if it makes a difference.

A "Jumper-Wire" (as electronics technicians use for diagnostic purposes,) is a length of wire with alligator-clips at each end.

okay , here goes, before i reinstalled the cluster, i tested the round switch that plugs into the cluster, i turned the key on, i was getting fire to the fuel gauge wire, also getting fire to the temp gauge, i turned blinker on right side getting fire, left side getting fire, i installed the cluster, plugged in the round switch and ran a jumper wire from the cluster to the dash, the fuel gauge does not work and temp guauge does not work, i cranked up the car to make sure, both blinkers work and fashers work,
so i really do not know what's up with this?

i just hooked up the switch panel, the light switch does not work, the wiper switch works, the flasher switch does work, so i have the cluster in the car and have it jump wire grounded and the fuel and temp gauges are not working, and the light switch is not working, all other gauges works and the blinkers work, so what's up with this?
