about my 64 440wgn's meter.
few days ago, temperature, fuel and oil meter haven't work definitely.these meter's hands beyond the upper limit point.
so I changed solid state voltage limiter.these hands don't beyond the upper limit point but these don't work at all.
I can't understand right reason why don't meters work....

Please give me good advices!!!!

you may get a little more help in the question and answer section. To me something lost its connection... of course what it is is the question.

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

OK, firt all three were pegged (reading HI) right? So you replaced the voltage limiter and not they don't move at all.
Did something not get reconnected in the process?
Its the limiter grounded?

OK,I attached files.
this pic is the first trouble.speed meter is good.but temperature, fuel and oil's are no good.
so I replaced solid state voltage limitter.new one was checked whether they move.but three meters didn't work.....(next pic)

I would check voltage into and out of the voltage limiter first

What I meant was, is it possible to see if the input voltage is where it is suppose to be where it is plugged in and are you getting correct the output voltage.

Sorry I do not know which is which. do not have the schematic to look it up.

#1 should be ground. Don't assume you have it make sure with a meter.

On the other two one should be battery voltage and the other the reduced voltage.

I tried to check voltage.
I couldn't check because space is so small.....

Thanks HealthServices.

I was afraid of that.

I'm not familiar with your gauge assembly were you able to remove and replace the limiter without removing the gauges?

Don't forget to check that your guages and voltage limiter has a good ground.

Also make sure (sounds stupid) that the fuse is not bad.

you're right....haha.
yes,I could replace the limiter without removing the gauges.

thanks for your advices!
I will try to check voltage......I have to think how to check it:-)

The three gauges all went bad at the same time but have a different position after you re-installed the new limiter. Make sure
  • it was installed correctly,
  • the ground was not disturbed,
  • a fuse was not blown while trying to replace everything,
  • no other wires were disturbed.
  • the wires were re installed where they were before.

hopefully the gauges did not burn up when they pegged like that... the same thing happened on my 71 challenger and it ruined the gauges. if the dash voltage regulator fails and allows 12v to the meters they will peg, and the tiny resistance wire mechanism in them can be damaged.

i would check that the meters still work, you can do this with a small 9v battery as a test. With 9v applied the meters should move towards their maximum.

cheers
