don't have an answer to your question, but i can tell you, whatever you get, get a lot of it!
i used the mopar 'restoration hemi orange' when i put my motor together, and it looks very nice. but then they quit making it, and now have just 'street hemi orange', and guess what, it's a different shade.
so i have nothing for touch ups. bummer. so whatever you go with, get plenty of to have around, at least enough to repaint the engine, like if you need to take the intake manifold off or something like that.

Even though the OP was about spray gun type paint,I will agree with the Plasti-Kote.It's the best for a spary bomb.
RustOleum has come out with engine enamel too.
Nautilus Racing- We use Superformance gaskets and Turbo Action converters/products.

"Best" as in correct original color? Frank Badelsons mix....PERIOD!
However, I don't see much room for improvement over Franks, it's dead on to any old paint chip I've compared it to on several original paint engines (there are several shades depending on year).
OK so I ordered the paint from Frank last week. Should arrive very soon.
Is there any particular brand reducer I'll need to get for it and should I use hardener when I get ready to use it? According to Frank, he said they didn't mix a hardener in when they use it. I just want to make sure I get it right when I do this. Thanks in advance.

Just follow the instructions Frank send with the paint, it's a breeze. Also, I use a small touch up gun rather than a full size paint gun, gives you a bit more control and tends to waste less paint. In prepping the block I use a really good cleaner like Acetone to get every spec of dirt and grease, and oil off (even on freshly machined/tanked engines). If you do this and lay the paint on in a light coat, let it tack up, and then add a second, even coat for final coverage the paint holds up great (no primer, etc. needed).
*I painted the engine in this pic (pic taken last year) way back in 1990 using his paint, it's only driven occasionally but as you can see, after 20 years it still looks great
