I am getting ready to remove my rear leaf springs on my 70 Charger RT so that I can have the aluminum spring eye bushings installed for my Cal Tracs
I am wondering if there is a quick way you guys use to removine the rear leaf springs...jacking up the car by the differential, placing stands under the rear part of frame,etc.....

If your installing the Cal-Trac's then the easiest will be to jackup the car, Jackstands under the Front part of the frame rails. Pull the 8 Bolts for the (4 for each)rear Hanger. Disassemble the Shackle, push the old bushing out (Big C-Clamp and Pipe), Press the new bushing in. Buy new U-BOLTS before you attempt to drop the axle. Hack Saw, Sawzall, Torch the old U-Bolts off. The reason being is the Nuts on the U-Bolts are stamped and are a PITA to remove without Air Tools. Good Luck..

Disconnect E-Brakes, disconnect brake lines, drop the driveshaft, unbolt shocks from the rear-end, drop the springs at the hangers(both rear then front). roll it out from under and tackle the u bolts/shock-plates.

replace and

Do one side completely, then the other. That way you don't have to fight the rear end as much.

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

the higher you get the car in the air to work on the better. it sucks being cramped underneath.

I had to drop mine in the Dakota not too long ago. I jacked the body up until the rear was high enough with unsprung weight and the frame on jack stands. I then unbolted the springs and tapped the bolts out as far as I could without actually popping them out. With my floor jack under the pumpkin I finished removing the bolts on both sides. I only had to drop the rear part of my springs to change from an 7 1/4 to an 8 3/4 rear. Cut the u-bolts with a grinder and removed the rear and slid the new in. Hope this helps.

Jackstands under the rear subframes and under the axle housing on each side AND under the pinion flange. You want it(as said) high enough to work with and the car and the rear end to stay in the same position as you R&R the springs and I would suggest putting the front sides in 1st with the nuts on just enough to hold them which will give you a bit more length to make it easier to get the rear shackles lined up & the bolts started then getting all 4 corners bolted in & tightened THEN LIGHTLY snugging the u bolt nuts on both sides so the axle wont be (possibly) pulled up one one side if you tightened one side fully w the other loose then tightenening them to specs(iirc 45 lbs)

I was going to put jack stands under the differential axle housings and front snubber area to avoid disconnecting the brake lines....and if I do that do I even need to unbolt the driveshaft? I probably will unbolt the driveshaft anyway just to be safe.

If you have a stand under the nose & everything is sturdy you'll be fine, just get everything where you are comfortable with it before you start

Just did mine again.I out stands under the frame in frt on the frt hangers.Leave the floor jack under the center of the rear. Then i undo the Ubolts and shocks. The rear just sits on the jack,Then undo the spring hangers. Its easier to R&R the whole spring to change the bushings.Reinstall spring a helper is great for that.Let the rear down till it rests on the spring and install the ubolts and plates.Did mine with changing bushings in about an hour on the ground.Rocky
