Bondobob probably has an A-body/A-engine plate and mounting tabs that go together. He has them cut on a water jet. He made mine custom to use with the 3/8" plate Brian Smith made me.

Many weld them in and many bolt them in. Is there any draw back to bolting the angle brackets in? DC
your welding the bracket on a thin sheet of metal
by using a long bolt you are bolted to the whole frame rail
Are you saying, use a bolt long enough to go through the total depth of the frame? A Pair of 3/8" bolts would crush a frame rail without welding in some sort of support tubes. Back to welding.
It wouldn't take much torquing to crush the stock rail...

A piece of angle iron(2 X 2) welded on the back side of your engine plate will set works just fine... or go taller if you need it... but with 2x2 thats alot of surface area to hold the load. I have a piece of .090 flat stock welded to my chassis for the plate for each side... I would also recommend 2 bolts per side(if the plate moves at all it will bind on the bolts to eliminate frame flex unlike a single bolt) also I would use engine limiters with a motor plate to eliminate any fore and aft movement(a flat plate in a vertical plane doesnt do much)

Any pics available showing the engine limiter with the motor plate.
