My bucket seats seem like they sit too low and the backrest reclined too much,I have bumpers on the seat backs. The frame rails seem like they are bolted directly to the floor , should I have spacers ? What's wrong here ?

No spacer, but they did sell them over the counter. Have you tried adjusting the seat back bumpers? Just unscrew them to adjust the seat back angle forward.

The A&E-Bodies used steel spacers. P/N 2999991
I don't have any pictures of the steel spacers. If you have a good picture, please post it.

B-Bodies used steel P/N 2999991 or plastic P/N 2945544, like the ones in the attachment.

Thanks, the seat back bumpers I have don't appear to be adjustable, just 1 nylon bumper on the inboards, and then the seat latch assembly on the outboard. Even if I could adjust the bumper higher then the seat latch wouldn't engage. Does anyone know if these spacers are still available anywhere ? Thanks

Sorry, I was thinking about the hood bumper.
Does the seat bumper get screwed in until it is tight against the bottom of the seat back?

Hopefully someone will post a picture and dimensions of the correct spacer.

That's good info. I'd always thought they were just randomly used. I've been looking for a set for a while. Not any more. Thanky!

I never knew those spacers were available before. I needed to install stereo amps discretely, so I used some 1/2" thick aluminum bars as spacers. As I recall, I had to lengthen at least one of the the seat studs as they weren't long enough to be bolted on from below... kinda foggy now, but I do remember distinctly welding on extra threaded rod.

I preferred the seats lower, but I am used to it now, worked great with those Alpine amps.

That's what I thought, but I wasn't sure. Are they used to take the slop out of the seat back.

My 68 Charger and a good friends 68 Coronet used round spacers made from wood between the seat frame and the floor pan. Both of these cars were factory original cars. I didn't want to deviate from original and made a couple of sets of them for my car and his. I painted them black. I'm sure you could make a set for your car. I used 3/8" plywood and you could use the thickness you need for your desired angle of comfort.

My GTX had the wood spacers. Also a factory car. When i re did the seats i installed a new set of the plastic spacers. Seat feels much better. Most of the repop guys have the seat spacers

According to the 68 parts book, both the plywood and plastic were available. The plastic shows as new part number for 68. Maybe it was a mid-year thing.

Great, that's what I was looking for, so it sounds like the originals were about 3/8" and installed between the seat frame and body mounts. So if my seat is too low and the seat back angled too far, I'd want to put them in the rear of the mounts only correct ? Thanks Snoopy and all

I know on my 70 RoadRunner's bench seat they are on all 4 bolts. I got a new set of E-bag for going back in. Good Luck! Ronnie in Okla.

If your seat is to far back, then the seat frame is most likely broken just above where the hinge is welded to the seat back. Every seat I have taken apart has been cracked causing it to look like it is reclined.

I don't have the info at my fingertips right now, but a previous thread from some time back on the same topic had some dimensions of the different under seat spacers posted. If I recall correctly, the difference was in the thickness of the spacer, with E bodies being less thick than the B body plastic reproductions which are available.

Great thanks, does anyone know where these might be available as plastic or steel for E-Body ?

That's going to be a tough find, NOS or used only for the correct E body piece.

Many people have used the repro plastic B body piece in their E bodies. It's available from year one and probably other vendors also. It's only a little taller than the correct E body piece. Barely noticeable since your sitting on seat foam anyway.

I ran across that old thread I was talking about while looking for something else. Here is what Tom Race from R/T Specialties had to say about these spacers.

Tav

Quote:

there were 3 different spacers used
67-69 a body used a thin metal one
the 68-70 b-body used the ones you have pictured and the only ones being made
the e-body used a plastic spacer about 1/2 the thickness of the b-body
