The tr will have the edge, probably by 30 + hp. See if you can scrounge one of the M1 mopar tr manifolds, They are a nice piece. On carb selection , carb type is going to be very important and based on cam, rpm range, final cubic inch size, head flow. My WAG is to stay with something in the 600 cfm to 650 cfm range, designed for this app.

I have ran both. Currently an m-1 TR but the victor 4150 with adapter to a dominator works really well and easy to tune.

When the M1 TR came out in the early 90s Mopar Perf claimed it made more hp than the "Competitors" tunnel ram.

Keep old mopars alive.

In the 08 spring issue of Hot Rod mag do it your self series on Engines they tested 18 different intakes on a mild 383 then on a stout 383. On the stout 383 they used three tunnel rams and some other single carb intakes. Peak Tq/hp = Offy TR- 467/516, M1 TR - 468/537, Weiand TR- 494/540, Eddy Victor - 462/517. Not much difference except the price tag, to go with a TR you are looking at min 3x the cost.

I ran a weiand last year and the M-1 this year. I have no number to back it up just the seat of my pants and for me the M-1 works better with cnc eddies.

Well sure they did. You think they would say it
made less. It's called selling!

Tunnel rams look cool, but the Victor I bet will make better power over the whole RPM range.

Snap your neck, mega G-force launch, is all I want!

Yeah, right.

I'll take numbers from an independent source thanks... especially against a NEW design; not something that the 'competitors' designed ten-plus years ago.

I remember reading the article, but I can't remember it well...

... but I'm guessing the 'competitor' wasn't Weiand! Kinda' hurts, since I got the M1 myself!

Not if you shop right. I picked up a new-in-box low-deck M1 with two good used 770 CFM AVS carbs, delivered to my door for about two bills and small change. About what the manifold would sell for. Add $50 for some homespun throttle linkage, and a couple extra fuel fittings... didn't go over $300; not close to triple the price of putting on a good second hand Victor and good used Dommy.

Hell, it even drives pretty nice on the street (both with 383 and 489 inch shortblocks); can't ask more than that! Well, unless you ask to not get out-horsed by a Weiand...

I have to go get my WAAAAH on now - oh wait, I just did.

Seduce the attractive, and charm the rest. ****** 489 C.I.D., roller cam, aftermarket heads, tunnel ram, stock '54 Dodge rear axle assembly: which of these doesn't belong?

I just went and googled...

http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/hrdp_0801_mopar_intake_manifolds/mopar_performance_manifold.html

This has the second stage w/ the ported heads and hotter cam. The highest average (3100-6500) 4 and 8 bbl setups:

The M1:

Peak torque: 468 lb-ft @ 5,400
Peak horsepower: 537 hp @ 6,400
Average 3,100-5,000: 417 lb-ft, 326 hp
Average 5,000-6,500: 458 lb-ft, 501 hp
Average 3,100-6,500: 435 lb-ft, 403 hp

Weiand Hi-Ram:

Peak torque: 494 lb-ft @ 4,900
Peak horsepower: 540 hp @ 6,500
Average 3,100-5,000: 444 lb-ft, 346 hp
Average 5,000-6,500: 468 lb-ft, 511 hp
Average 3,100-6,500: 453 lb-ft, 418 hp

Victor 383:

Peak torque: 462 lb-ft @ 5,100
Peak horsepower: 517 hp @ 6,500
Average 3,100-5,000: 421 lb-ft, 328 hp
Average 5,000-6,500: 445 lb-ft, 486 hp
Average 3,100-6,500: 431 lb-ft, 397 hp

Performer RPM:

Peak torque: 470 lb-ft @ 5,000
Peak horsepower: 505 hp @ 6,500
Average 3,100-5,000: 440 lb-ft, 343 hp
Average 5,000-6,500: 444 lb-ft, 485 hp
Average 3,100-6,500: 441 lb-ft, 404 hp

But, at least the M1 TR looks cooler than the RPM
