It turned out to be a perfect day for the Midway Drags Saturday! They do things a little different in the interest of time. They take the 4 fastest runs from two qualifiers in a class and run them off for a winner. It's a heads up deal, no nitrous allowed (stupid, but whatever). I qualifed 3rd in Superstock and won first round. We were pretty close but I had a good .08 light. I lost in the final to an AMX that was running 10.70's. The 330 was super consistent running within a hundreth all day! The shifter cable got a little warm and got tight as they were hot lapping us at the end, so need to fix that. Not bad for an old pump gas street car!

I got the burned shift cable replaced and did some tuning. Timing was more retarded than I recalled so I squared that away.
Really happy with how it's running and driving now. Just need a good test and tune track day!

I really like your car and am impressed with what you are doing with the Nitrous and stock block. I would like it either way but have to ask- any plan to paint it or is the freedom of having an unpainted car too good to give up? I go back and forth. It is low maintenance and I can walk away from it anywhere and not worry but I would love to have it all glossy and black some day. It's a reasonably straight car so it wouldn't take a lot. I have really nice stainless that is all polished and ready to go...some day... I have a teen that is starting college in the Fall and just bought her a car so...

We finally got in some test passes and had fun his weekend!
It was warm and muggy with a DA of about 3800 and temp of around 85°.
I did a test pass n/a first and it did a much better 11.51. Not bad for the heat as most everyone was off about .3 from what they usually run.
I turned on the bottle to see if the new, colder heat range plugs were going to keep the #5 strap from melting. The car ran fine and did it's thing but it was late in the night and the prep just wasn't there after all kinds of street cars had went down. It ran a 10.74 with a lousy, spinning 1.64 60 ft. time. The pass was really smooth and a plug check revealed all was well.
We even drove it across town to Cars and Coffee at the urging of a friend that morning and it was an uneventful trip in traffic. Really not my scene but went to hang out with a good friend. I played a little on the street Friday night with a 5.0 Mustang from a roll. He took the hit and I drove around him!
Much better now that some timing issues are sorted! It's set at 36° total for n/a and pulling 10° for the nitrous. I hesitate to post these #'s not due to secrecy but so others don't duplicate them since every combo is different! I will say my jetting isn't what NX recommends but will leave that a mystery.

I put the hard street 275's on last night. It's kinda sketch when they are spinning in 3rd and the wheel speed is up there!

It's been a short 2023 season for me this year as in we didn't get to do much at the track. My job keeps me busier than ever and with the closest track now an hour away, it gets increasingly difficult to get passes in to test. The good thing is, I've been driving it around a lot more and enjoying it on the street with friends. The plans for the winter include pulling the transmission and doing a wellness check on it. It's taken some abuse and with the power it makes, I want to make sure all is good before we do hero passes next Spring!

I was looking for a better dock for my DeWalt battery that powers the nitrous bottle heater. There's nothing wrong with the 3D printed one, but it made me a little nervous that it could break, so I was looking for something a little sturdier. I came across this one by gobilda that is a smart dock and has built in protections! I killed a new 20v last year by discharging it too far and all the attempts to revive it have failed. This will prevent that from happening!

I decided to go back to the red 5 point harness. I sent one in to RJS Racing for re-cert and they are back all within a werk! They make it super easy to send them in, too!

With the power we are putting through the relatively stock 727, I pulled it out and inspected it this weekend. Keep in mind this is after hundreds of 1/4 mile passes and thousands of street miles. Other than the normal dusting of gray material in the pan and some of the steels starting to show heat marks it looks really good inside! There was nothing special about the clutches and steels as they were what comes in the normal Transtar rebuild kits! I believe the heat on the steels is from the 2nd gear launches we were doing for some hard street tire stuff and unprepped events. The plan is to upgrade to Kolene steels and Alto Eagle red clutches and throw it back in the car. As the car gets faster, preventative maintenance is going to have to be more frequent!

I was planning on replacing the front case due to a few of the bolt holes getting worn and I had another sitting on the shelf. I guess I'm replacing the tailshaft housing as well since it had an ear broken off. Fortunately a friend had one and 30 minutes after I called him I was bringing it home! New Alto Eagle clutches and Kolene steels are going back in along with new seals and gaskets!.

Thar's pretty impressive how well a mostly stock 727 has held up behind your car. No billet parts or hardened shafts? Just a rebuild kit and a valve body?

We got it put back in the car last night. Really no issues and I drove it off the lift and the short trip to my house 4 houses away. I drove it this afternoon and put about 30 miles on it. It feels crisper and tighter than it has in a while. Putting a new bushing in the new tailshaft also eliminated a slight vibration I had over 80 mph. It's pretty easy to get carried away on the back roads now. I'm really excited to get it to the track!

I wish I had more to report but we've been having lots of rain lately and I opted to sit out Mopars at Mo-Kan this year. Good thing, too, as it was pretty rough storms later that evening when I would have been traveling. Spring in the Midwest can be brutal as we had lots of hail and high winds last night.
We did make it to KID's first real event of the year and I entered 7.50 index (running N/A). I was just a little too quick, we didn't get many practice rounds and I went out first round of competition. I was out ahead and tried to back into my competitor and just took too much. The pro tree and 1/8th mile is just not my bag apparently!

It was a reasonably nice evening tonight. Usually Kansas is hotter than the surface of the sun so we took advantage and went to Kansas International Dragway. The DA was still over 3500. We made 2 passes on the hose tonight and the first one was horrible. The second did okay off the line but came in hard on the top end! Still no single digit e.t. but that 135 mph tells the horsepower story!
